Having read many threads past and present, I'm wondering how many airline 'ringers' there actually are on the forum. There seems to be the odd person that leaps to defend when somebody bags one or other airline. No interest in going into petty detail, just the impression I've formed.

D'oh, I thought this thread was about the Nürburgring. I'll see myself out...

There are airline posters here but they are known, their avatars give them away. They are welcome and it is great to see them active on a forum like this. There are others(including hotel chain people)who read the various forums but dont post.
Most however you see leaping to defend an airline etc are just passionate.I often leap to defend AA and there is no way I could ever get a job with them.It is just that they have treated me well and i have more good flights with them than QF.Most others have the opposite ecperience. That's life.
Unfortunately conspiracy theories are usually wrong. If there is ever a choice between a conspiracy and a stuff up the stuff up wins every time.

I have read a many threads where someone has had a major complaint and skews the arguement in his/her favor.I have agreed in many cases , but also in many I have thought "get a life".

The "ringer" gives the airlines take on the issue and keeps a balance.

Also don't under estimate forum members intelligence in many posts where there are 2 points of view.

Between all the posters there are thousands of flights occuring each year and if an issue is a common occurence is shows up and the ringer can defend the situation as much as they like, but they won't convince anyone.

"ringers" also impart their knowledge and are a fantastic part of this forum.

I doubt there are many. If your discovered as a ringer it can oftan do more damage to your company than if you state your alliances straight out.

That said, don't mistake ringer with fanboi (aka the loyal customer with blinkers on). For example I like QF, so I'll both fly QF almost exclusively and defend them if someone is bagging them out unreasonably. That said I myself don't work for QF and unless I go get my pilots license I don't see myself ever working for them.

No doubt airlines look at these forums to see what they are doing right and what they are doing wrong towards their best customers. As far as they would be concerned (I would hope) it's a free, inexpensive way of getting feedback on their services.

+1 here

I have a tendency to be exactly the same with QF and somewhat with JQ - JQ coming from a perspective of expecting nothing, receiving nothing = happy and QF expecting to be treated well, 99% of the time treated well = happy.

I too will jump to the defence of either when an untoward argument is put forward, or a rolls royce service is expected on JQ and it doesn't happen, but I am equally quick in bagging any of the airlines when something does not go right.

As posted by MAX, the number of flights taken per annum between a few of the posters on this forum is astronomical, this alone due to the repetitiveness of flying, makes us experts in what we are entitled to expect when flying, of the benefits of status and how the airlines performance is in some cases like a roller-coaster...

There are a couple of known ringers, crazydave for one, who offer their opinion and experience - in crazydaves case from a less distorted point of view than others, however we have had recent cases here where a particular holiday company had (right or wrong) been accused of shady dealings and very quickly a knight in shining armour stood to the defence of that company...

I guess this is what makes these forums so entertaining as well as a great knowledge base...

Mr!

I'd also add that the known airline representative here are oftan a great resource, as they are able to clarify terms or conditions, provide email addresses to send a complaint to (and thus take up the handling of the problem) or provide little pieces of information which even the most frequent of flyers may not have known.

When there is unreasonable 'bagging' of an airline, yes someone will stand up and try to give a reason why those comments weren't reasonable. You know, they say "if you throw mud, some sticks" and this also applies to bagging of airlines, through a forum or anywhere else.

My gripe is when someone pays $1 for a flight and expects 100000kgs of baggage allowance, a 10 course degustation meal on board with complimenting wines and instant service by the crew with a wave of their magic wand. And the sad part is when they don't get all that, rant and rave and tell the whole wide world to never ever ever fly on that carrier again. Oh, and that's their first and only flight in the past ten years, and also last flight for the next ten.

Alanslegal,

You forgot to include the F seat....

Yes I hate those people as well...

I hope that plenty of ringers subscribe to this community. They will get plenty of frank feedback.
