re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

Called Amex about this, customer service said 'technical issues' were ongoing but seemed to suggest resolution within a couple of weeks.

Wanted to take advantage of jetabroads 10% cashback with paypal + get rewards points (my mastercard has none). Looks like I can't have my cake and eat it too.

Thanks for the info, and welcome to AFF!

Amex increased their forex fee to 3% on transactions a few months ago.

Also, the conversion isn't too bad by Amex. According to XE.com, the mid-market rate on the 26th was 1.08688, giving an actual bank fee on this transaction of 2.739% (see http://www.xe.com/ccc/ )

re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

Cannot add any Amex to my PayPal account, nor use Amex through PayPal as a "Guest" either

re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

Called paypal today, the woman said they weren't accepting Amex anymore.

I asked why it was still listed as a payment option, she said they're yet to remove the buttons but it'd be happening in a few days.

Quite strange.

Sounds like some several small businesses that sign up and then don't' bother with Amex anymore. I know of quite a few of these!

Oh well like other businesses that don't accept Amex I won't be using PayPal then!

With more and more banks cutting back on the VI/MC options and promoting Amex I am sure the demand for Amex use will increase over the next few months.

Worked for me too. Seems like they have corrected the problem. One remaining task is to actually use the card to buy something through Paypal.

Won't believe it till I have completed the end to end test.

re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

I just processed a transaction on my AMEX card through PayPal with no issues.

re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

Added mine ok as well.

re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

Didn't want to link mine :(

Welcome to AFF, Jay723!!

I'm still waiting for my replacement AmEx to actually show up before I can have another go at linking it :(

re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

I just processed a transaction, worked perfectly.
I just processed a test payment of $30AUD to myself (business to personal account), and it finally went through on the first try (hasn't been working for a while).

Yay :D Looks like the problem is fixed.

It'll be interesting to see whether the merchant name is still "PAYPAL SG Singapore SN AUSTRALIA AU" for the charge, or whether the recent problems have been due to Amex changing their settings to allow PayPal to submit merchant names dynamically (eg. with Visa & MasterCard, it always came up on the statement with the PayPal merchant's business name after the "*", whereas with Amex it wasn't coming up at all before it was blocked... (only showing the Singapore thing, even though using PayPal AU lol)

My 0.02 :)

EDIT: From checking my other account, I can also confirm that PayPal haven't changed the fees for those accepting PayPal payments - for the $30AUD payment, the fee was $1.02 (2.4% of $30 (72c) plus fixed 30c fee)... Now to do a reversal so that I don't actually have to pay that! :D

re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

My Amex issued card still doesn't work.

re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

Still not working for me. Unable to add my Amex.:(

re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

Is anyone able to comment upon the claim that 'All American Express cards are processed in USD, causing currency conversion fees for our members outside the U.S.' as it sounds like a load of baloney to me.

That sounds right.

I have an amazon.com account and amazon willl charge my mastercard/visa in AUD however my Amex can only be charged in USD.
It is good for me as i use amex and get a better currency conversion rate that what amazon is offering.

I would guess that this is one reason amex has not been available to Australians as paypal cannot charge their currency conversion rates which means paypal makes less money.

I cannot add my amex issued card to paypal either

re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

Called Amex today, customer service checked with quality assurance (I think he said)-

As far as Amex are concerned, the Paypal problems are still present and there isn't an official expected resolution timeframe.

re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

My Plat Credit card didn't work.. might try the Charge card for something different...

re: PayPal Australia now [NOT] accepting AmEx [Again!]

My Westpac-issued Amex is working without problems, and I just added my newly-received CBA-issued Amex without issue either...

Is anyone else having any luck with bank-issued Amex cards? As from what's been written above it seems that it's only Amex-issued cards that are having problems.
