Maybe a tad worried about VA comming online to J'burg, but probably more to do with aircraft utilisation over the Indian Ocean.....

Cheers Dee

SA codeshare on QF metal on SYD-JNB-SYD (QF63/64, codeshare with SA7701/7700).

NZ codeshare on SA metal on PER-JNB-PER (SA281/282, codeshare with NZ3081/NZ3080).

Dee are they now running QF equipment across the Indian these days to Perth?
Cheers
SPRUCE:p

Kiwial and oz_mark have answered your querie, SA use their A340-600's on the JNB/PER route, and QF their B744's on the SYD/JNB/SYD legs.

SA and QF have always made good profits across the Indian, and in QF's case it is one of the last longhaul duopoly routes left that brings in the $$$s..........

Cheers Dee

Will be interesting to see them take off from Perth while the main North/South runway is closed for six weeks next year.

SA had for a period recently sent their A342's to PER.
I am not sure when they are changing this back to their A346's

(The different model depends on what day you fly, certain days they fly the A342, other days they fly the A346.)

*IIRC the A342 does not have AVOD, or personal screens, so the A346 would be a better option if you could choose your dates.

It is interesting (to me anyway!) that the QFF Points Earning is on SAA domestic flights. This must have been the tradeoff that SAA wanted because there was already Qantas/OneWorld earning on the BA (Comair domestic flights). Would this deal have annoyed BA?
Personally, I wish the QFF earning had extended to all SAA int'l flights but nevertheless......

SA282 ex JNB on Fridays and SA283 ex PER on Saturdays are A342's through to late March. The other SA282/SA283 flights and SA280/SA281 flights are A346's (subject to A/C substitution).

Any know what their J product is like for PTH-JNB return (compared to QF)?

For PER-JNB, I flew in J at the end of April this year on the A346. I was extremely impressed. Very comfortable, spacious seat that fully recline. Fantastic food and IFE. Awesome amenity kits. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Compared to QF, as much as it pains me to say it, I'd have to put SA just above them (at least when comparing Skybed Mark I).

meh, FF points, no SCs no fly.

Assume MX will earn SCs from 10-Nov

Does their seat go fully horizontal like Skybed Mark II?

SAA and QF working together like this- does it strain the Alliance friendships?

Slightly OT when I was organising an SQ Krisflyer redemption to JNB the flights ex SYD and ex PER were were unable to be redeemed upon. The codeshare was off-limits and the SAA Metal hadno ostensible award availability.

Interesting, I have SAA points that i hope are no problem redeeming on QF63/64.

Has anyone had any expexierience in this area?

cheers

And belatedly today, SAA released the following:

South African Airways (SAA) has announced it will reinstate frequent flyer points for its passengers traveling on Qantas codeshare flights from Australia and for Qantas passengers who travel on SAA flights.

According to SAA's Head of Australasia, Thevan Krishna, from the beginning of November, passengers who are members of SAA's Voyager frequent flyer program will now be able to earn points when traveling on SAA tickets on

Qantas codeshare flights between Australia to South Africa.
Similarly, Qantas passengers on SAA codeshare flights operating between Perth and Johannesburg will earn frequent flyer points

"We're pleased to see this arrangement back in place after two years absence and believe it will address concerns expressed by a number of passengers," Thevan said.

Redemption rates have now changed, too. Earlier this year I got a J award PER-JNB on SA for 72000; now it's 78000. However, if you book on the QF codeshare it's unchanged.
