Now all we need is some airlines other than LH to be looking at purchasing them (QF I'm looking at you :!: )...

Either way I can't wait for my first flight on one. The A380 is nice, but the 747 is still my preferred bird...
 
I can see the logic behind Boeing bring out the new 747. fingers crossed the airlines will agree with them.

i suppose it will depends on how many airports eventually upgrade to handle taking the A380.

hopefully it wont turn into just a freighter option.
 
I agree. I would love to see the 747-8i taken up by more airlines.
 
With the A380F off the table, I see the 747-8F as having some success.
 
The only thing that the 747 and the 787 have in common is that they cost money. So for Boing they are substitues but not for airlines. I mean you'd hardly swap your 787 orders for 747 orders. And I can't see Qantas running new 747 and A380 when they fill a similar spot.

With the 787 delay we are stuck with aging/outdated 737 for domestic flights.

I think you will find the 787 is more of a 767 replacement which are dated.

Qantas's 737-800s are relatively new. The 737-300s are almost all gone and the 400s are presumably next to go.
The 737-800 is still a current model plane, is getting an interior upgrade this year and is still being delivered to Qantas.

As moa999 says, the 787 is more a 767 replacement and the 733 and 734 are being replaced by 738's.

The 748 is aimed at a different part of the market but in a lot of situations and for a lot of airlines a passenger version would make economic sense. Not everyone needs, or can afford the A380.
