Flew Syd-Mel today and they were having a "trial" of a warm egg and bacon scroll. Apparently many pax have complained about the sandwich usually served.

I thought it was just ok but the FA's did not like it. One told me it takes ages to warm up and they had tendered very negative feedback to the powers that be.

So a big round sandwich with an egg slice and some bacon on it, possibly some sauce?

Yeesh....weird for lunch.

I'm surprised most people complained about the old sandwiches. Nothing wrong with them, but I'm guessing that most people were really expecting a full cooked meal a la dinner.

The sandwich is very small to me, not enough for lunch. A sandwich on a tray with a side salad and dessert would be nice! keep dreaming lol:lol:

Oh for the romantic days of flying.

I believe you can request an apple if you are that desperate. There are also packets of pretzels etc.

Yep, I had a savoury scroll late last month on my Noon MEL-SYD flight.

Think coffee-scroll without the sweetness and fruit, but with stuff like olives, relish etc.

That to me just sounds like a piece of scrolled bread with some cheese and some other bits and bobs.

That's worse than a sandwich nutritionally and meal wise. Whoever complained about the sandwiches and agrees with this new move should be dragged out into the street and shot.

Lol, my thoughts were similar - but not so eloquent. They probably even cost less to Qantas than sangers do...

Better than three crackers and a slice of cheese - "refreshment"

And I doubt that will improve. The cynical side of me (which often comes out for a discussion!) says that Qantas worked out the egg+bacon scrolls are cheaper then the sandwiches they were using, and also fulfilled the ability to "improve" the service to customers by giving them a "hot" meal.

I'm sure an equal number of complaints are logged about the bird seed cookies given out for a snack (with their weird and wonderful combinations of random ingredients), or the crackers with another random dip type offerings. Has this changed? Nope...

Interesting. The Savoury Scrolls have been around for several months, but they were in the 'supper' service, not lunch. They're certainly not enough for lunch.

More cost cutting methinks over 'change because customers complained'.

I'll miss the sambos ....I really liked them(usually asked for seconds and never refused :))

I agree the sandwiches were good - now doubt expensive becasue of the freshness issue. A carefully crafted scroll could go several days and a couple of re-heats.

My gripe is with some of the refreshment offerings. Those deluxe cookies they offer carry an amazing 20g+ in fat. I am not a fat content freak but I wondered why they gave me reflux - I checked the package and there is the answer. And I would be surprised if the scroll was a fat level euivalent of the sanwhiches.

If I am going to put 20g of fat in me I would want a bit more enjoyment than you get from one of those cookies.

Some of the nicest refreshment/lunch style meals I have had is a Virgin Blue Chicken Wrap - salmonella scares aside it was fresh, crisp lettuce and delicious.

Mmm Ive been flying solidly for last two weeks and the scrolls are only supper. Perhaps the OP got his time/service mixed up or the flight was incorrectly loaded...?

The OP was me it was QF435 left at 1 pm and no I am not mixed up. I explained (I thought clearly) it was a first (at least according to the FA).

Sorry I didn't mean to imply you were mixed up, rather 'your' service was. I don't place a full measure of trust on what any FA says all the time, you get a bit of variance on all airlines.

I'm sure you are coherent enough to remember your flight number and time - clearly!:D

I had a Hot Spinach and Fetta Scroll a couple of weeks ago on MEL-SYD Y. Was very good, however not enough fetta in it and not filling.

Defiantly a cost reduction idea. Making a scroll allows you to put less filling in the product and generally less ingredient then a sandwich.

But why oh why do they have to serve that cheap bubbly in the QP lounges. It takes me 3-4 of them before it tastes any good.

Have a couple of G&T's first instead - then when you get to the Bubbly it would matter :p
