Hello all
We will be flying from Sydney to London on BA on 27/9/09 changing in Sinapore. I have checked seat counter and there seems to be very few seats taken on our flights. I even looked at expedia, as if purchasing a seat, and the flight came up but no seat map was available for the plane.

The flights are Syd - Sin BA16 departing 3.30pm and then Sin - LHR BA12. Does this mean there are very few seats sold or could the two flights be combined as both originate in Sydney?

Unless in 1st class, booked in J or C class in business, W in WT+ or Y economy or the passenger holds OW Sapphire/Emerald status, seating pre-allocation is not available for BA flights

With this policy, the seat maps do tend to be pretty open with good availability for those eligable to pre-select seats; this does not mean that the flight is not busy

BA16 and 12 would, I posit, be very unlikely to be merged ; both the BA16 777 and BA 12 747 will need to get back to LHR and unlikely that BA would merge these flights and leave one in SIN.

I had read here earlier that BA were looking at maybe cutting long hall flights due to competition and a means to reduce costs.

So maybe a row to ourselves probably wont be on the cards. So sad. So I guess the seat counter information isn't really very accurate.

Agree with Dave - I've not heard of BA flight mergers out of SYD due to those aircraft being needed back at home base. IF the aircraft make it to SYD, the aircraft pass muster, and the ground crew don't pull a '74 Frank Sinatra (which I fully supported by the way), then she'll be right.

The only time I've had a BA flight merged out of SYD was when it snowed last year at LHR, and BA couldn't actually get BA0015 off the ground. I probably wouldn't have thought of snow plows at LHR either. Go figure.

On that occasion BA0010 was cancelled, and we were put onto QF1 - no complaints! Well, except arriving at LHR T4. What a terminal.

Happy and safe travels

We arrive in LHR at terminal 4 and then will need to get to terminal 5 for a BA flight departing 2h 15m later. Will that be a problem

No reason why it should be; on arrival follow the signs for "flight connections" and hop on the bus to T5; no need to collect bags or go through immigration or customs

Would there be an opportunity to purchase anything duty free before boarding our final flight to Paris.
With the exchange rate to the pound quite good it might be an opportunity to purchase a bottle or 2

Duty free prices in LHR are dire; don't even bother. iirc, you will not be able to buy alcohol or cigarettes since your departure is to an EU destination
