UK and Europe 4 month sojourn!

And we were treated to a magnificent sunset. Living on the east coast of Australia we don’t get to see sunsets over the water so this was special.

We are now in Venice after a couple of nights in Split and one night in Zagreb. Split was nice but didn’t quite cut it after being on the islands of Korcula (in particular) and also Hvar. Zagreb was really just a stop over on our way to Venice. We took the train from Split to Zagreb and then the next day got the train from Zagreb to Vienna. Both were about 7 hour trips. The train to Zagreb was pretty basic, with no food car and uncomfortable seats. The train to Vienna was much better and we were fortunate to have the cabin to ourselves for most of the trip (two others joined us later in the trip).



There were some amazing views as we headed through the mountains to Vienna but we were on the wrong side so it was hard to get photos. The below photos are from earlier in the trip and before we started heading up the mountains.

We arrived in Venice about 2:00 pm and after checking in wandered around to stretch the legs and get a bite to eat. Today we will do a walking tour of Venice to hopefully see all the historical sites.

We arrived in Venice about 2:00 pm and after checking in wandered around to stretch the legs and get a bite to eat. Today we will do a walking tour of Venice to hopefully see all the historical sites.

Did you get to see the sound and light show in Zagreb. Sounds produced by the movement of water and the sea wall. Solar power collected during the day and powers the light show after dark. And a really nice sunset thrown in as well.

Disappointingly no as we weren’t aware of this. We should have done some more research!

Today was Mrs Scash‘s birthday (and a special one at that) so the celebrations started with a glass or two at the neighbourhood wine bar Spry. This place specialises in naturally made wines and has an extensive list. We started with some bubbles and the

n moved on to an orange wine for the bride and son and a rose’ for me.

We flew with KLM and had a short layover of approximately 1 1/2 hours at AMS on the way to DBV. We arrived at the D gates and then had to go to the B gates for our departure flight. We then had to go through passport control and the line was enormous. By the time we got through and to the gate we basically had just enough time for a trip to the loo before boarding commenced.

You did very well to make a pit stop @Scash , we didn't have any time to spare going from F to C gates.
To KLM ' s credit, as our flight was delayed, text upon arrival for Fast Track Passport Control - it helped.

It seems AMS is a bit of a cough fight. They had staff going around and calling out for anyone with imminent flights to come forward and be fast tracked. The European part of our trip finishes in Amsterdam and we fly out of AMS back to EDI so not looking forward going through security and passport control. We’re flying Y so no fast track for us

We did a free walking tour of Vienna which started near the Albertina Museum and then moved across the road to a memorial to WW2.

We then walked to the statue of Franz Joseph and Mozart.

A visit to Vienna wouldn’t be complete without sampling some of the local delicacies. Sachertorte and Kaiserschmarrn at Demel which is apparently an institution in Vienna. Overpriced but nice, especially Kaiserschmarrn in my opinion.

And then of course the ubiquitous Aussie bar. Surprised to see this in Vienna and for a moment thought we were in Bali . We didn’t go in as not really interest in drinking Fosters in Vienna (or Fosters at all)!

A relatively easy three hour train trip sees us in Budapest. We have a nice apartment on the Pest side close to cafes, bars etc.



After unpacking we headed off for a wander around and found a couple of craft breweries (funny that ) and a bit of local art work.

Also saw this place on our wanders. Apparently you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave
