How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Sounds like I need to book a stay!

Did those happen to count as status points?
I suspect there was some internal pressure from Sarah Derry to address my grievances, although couldn't know for sure.

Unfortunately didn't count as status points, only reward points.

Anyone stayed at the Pullman Cairns International lately? Mulling over a stay there or at the Pullman Reef Casino, although the pics of the latter don’t inspire so much, public areas looked a bit like an upmarket RSL.

Cheers skip

Casino in April, International last October.

Your assessment is accurate for casino.

They’re hard to split.

Plat recognition marginally better at Casino, but pool better at Int.
More dining options at Casino, but quieter at Int.

Depends on what you’re after, but I’d decide on price if I was heading to CNS again.

Casino hands down. You dont have to go into the casino at all if its not your thing ( but depending on status- )you get a couple of keno vouchers and casino chips as part of your welcoming gifts.
Even the base rooms here are nicer than the renovated International rooms IMO.
The International still has unrenovated rooms- ( shower curtains )
Im checking back into the casino on Wednesday for 4 nights.

First time staying here. Convenient location in Southbank, right next to Hamer Hall. The staff at the front desk were incredibly friendly, particularly when checking in. Loved the ambience in the lobby, particularly the gas fireplace.

Room was a good size, but in need of a renovation. Comfy bed, balcony and a small kitchenette - ticks all the boxes. What's with the lack of bathroom extraction fans at Accor properties in Melbourne? Neither Pullman Albert Park or Quay West had them - room service had to open the balcony sliding door to clear out the fog, making for a cold room that evening when I returned from work.

Brekkie was buffet style - scrambled eggs, grilled tomateos, hashbrowns, cereals, breads, smashed avocado (!!), fruit etc. Good spread and very tasty. Tea and barista coffee offered on arrival, but declined - unsure if included or at a cost.

Overall a good stay, but definitely in need of maintenance. I have a couple more Melbourne stays coming up over the next week or so. I'll be trying out Shadow Play by Peppers and then moving back to Quay West, although this time in a Superior Suite. These two stays should see me hitting Platinum.

With Accor Platinum status, officially the program T&C say if the hotel has an exec lounge then the free breakfast is offered in the lounge, and if not then breakfast offered in the main restaurant. Is that policy generally enforced, or are hotels with lounges ok with you eating in the main restaurant instead?

Varies by hotel, but usually I have had the choice, but certainly not always. Just ask them.

I've never had an issue dining in the main restaurant. Having said that I've only been platinum a year or so.

Never had a problem choosing either but as a rule we choose the lounge as it’s far quieter

I was flying in around 4pm , and the wife was arriving 1pm. I called the hotel around 9am to see if the wife could check in, And as she has been there previously with me a few times, she was allowed.
Have 4 nights here, no upgrades, the hotel is fully booked for the 4 nights we're here. I check other ALL properties, and no availability in Cairns at all. Didnt know what was on, but have since found out, Cairns Festival is on, also the Tank museum weekend.
Went out for dinner around 7pm, and a lot of places booked out, on a Wednesday night!! The place is extremely busy, its been a long time since ive seen it like this,
Ended up at the Pullman International- great use of discount

I'm having a bad run with extraction fans... arrived at Shadow Play by Peppers in Melbourne last night. I'll do a more detailed review in a few days, but from the bedroom there was a distant noise that sounded like an extraction fan or an airconditioner. The airconditioner was off. There was an extraction fan in the bathroom, but there was no switch for it. I called maintenance, who said there was nothing they could do until the morning, as the front desk staff had gone home for the night. The maintenance staff member assured me someone would call me in the morning. Frustrated, I went to bed for a long, disrupted night ahead.

I didn't receive a call in the morning, so called the front desk from work. They were aware of my problems, and told me that there was a switch "in the laundry" for the laundry extraction fan. The fan in the bathroom switches off 2-3 minutes after the bathroom light is turned off. Now, I am here for a few nights and have no intention of doing any washing, so had hardly even looked at the laundry facilities. The first image shows the cupboard housing the washer and dryer, with the bathroom through the door at behind. The second image shows the location of the laundry extraction fan, well below waist height and entirely hidden by the horizontal partition. The "fan switch" label was only added today by the maintenance team, so even if you did magically find the switch, it would be anyone's guess what it did.

IMG_0131.jpg

Anyway, I came back from work this evening to a few amenities in my room, and a card apologising for the inconvenience and confirmation that they would be waiving the fee for my first night. Why are extraction fans so bloody difficult? Is it too much to expect a switch for an extraction fan to be where you expect it to be??

Same hotel, same upgrade. Check in lady was more excited than we were, reason being that we had been upgraded to a suite on the 10th floor, which she was enthralled with. The suite was pretty much the same as the last time, except the bathroom was configured differently. The rest of the suite was as depicted in this post.

The “mia suite” had a bonus in that it was right opposite the empty executive lounge, which we treated like an extra loungeroom. It has the quo vadis model nespresso machine which we found in our 9th floor suite, useful for takeaways to our room. There was a view of the whole of the second runway this time.

The happy hour canapes are now served as a platter on order (pictured). This is probably a bit more discreet than bringing plates around and only handing comtents to some of the guests in the bar. I cant recall the happy hour drinks selection, but refreshingly it wasn't De Bortoli Legacy. The Apron restaurant is as good as ever.

It’s one of those happy hotels where the staff are all excellent and very pleasant. Yeah, we’ll be back again.

Cheers skip

Booked this hotel as a long weekend getaway and did not set my expectations high since this is an ibis Budget. Interestingly enough this property is part of the ALL program meaning I did receive Accor points and stay nights towards status (although I was already at 69 nights before this stay and so already re-qualified for Platinum). Check-in was a bit on the slow side, the receptionist took my details, went into the back room, typed away at the computer and came back and this occurred a couple of times. I noticed there was a breakfast on offer ($10/day) but was very basic (cereal and bread). I didn't even bother enquiring about whether breakfast was included as an Accor+Platinum since it wasn't worth my time.

As for the room: dated and very basic. I've been to worse ibis properties but not that many as bad as this. I mean there was one soap dispenser in the bathroom near the shower (i.e. no soap by the sink). No welcome amenities either, then again we are talking about an ibis budget here.

Would I stay here again? Probably. It's not in a bad location of town, although I certainly wouldn't pay a cent more than I paid here for the booking. I will also point out to the Accor connoisseurs wondering why I would stoop to an ibis budget, I would challenge you to find a better Accor property in Coff's Harbour proper. I couldn't find any!

In August, I made my move to see off Bonvoy as my primary hotel program, with a shift to ALL, which I’ll be using in combination with IHG & HH, going forwards. With work travel volumes now gone for me, for the foreseeable future, I can’t maintain meaningful status based on nights anymore, but we do spend large on accommodation when we travel for leisure, and so with Accor having an easy path to ALL Platinum status through spend, regardless of nights stayed, it was an obvious choice to switch to from Bonvoy. The number of properties in the region makes it even easier.

I was ALL Gold due to the QF match promotion, but had not stayed in an Accor property since 2018. Last month we travelled to ZQN for a 4-day weekend in the snow, and then a couple of weeks later we headed to Singapore & Malaysia, with two 3-night stays in Singapore book-ending the trip. I joined A+ for 4,000 ALL points (earnt from QF flights) just before heading off.

ALL Platinum status was confirmed after these 10 nights; in fact, just 9 would have been enough! 🤓

Large & nicely renovated Alpine 1 Bedroom suite, with a connecting king lake view room (sold as a 2 bedroom suite). Hotel is in a good location, 5-10 minutes walk up/down a pretty steep hill to the western edge of the Queenstown main shops and restaurants (nearest dining at Steamer Wharf / Casino area). Busy in-house, most noticeably when trying to find or fit into one of the limited paid car spaces under the property! The location means it is quiet at night, which was good for us with a young son in bed well before the party crowd in Q-town.

Breakfast was included in the rate, but to be honest, I would have probably preferred to check out something else, as we found the quality and offerings at the small buffet to be sub-standard, for the price of the place. Barista coffee also not included, and was not very good coffee anyway. Room service dinners were tasty and of a high standard, plus we were also able to order locally with Uber Eats for one meal, and the staff kindly brought the food and plates / cutlery up when it arrived.

A good base for our 4 day stay; 2 of which we spent at The Remarkables. A good stay – would like to return in summer to experience Queenstown without the cold or so much of the crowds!

Didn’t get many pictures, but here’s a few of the lobby, the views from the room and across b’fast to the views from Lombardi Restaurant:

Arrived quite late, due to a 2hr delay of QF81 out of Sydney, and then encountering the worst immigration clearance debacle in Singapore that I have seen in 20+ years and over 65 visits to the Lion City. Just awful, awful, awful (and we got to do it again another 2 times as well)… but I digress…

I called the hotel from the taxi on the way into the city, to let them know that we were on the way (late) and to expect us, and that it would be appreciated if they could confirm that the requested rollaway bed was in place. They happily obliged, and on pulling up in the taxi, there was a member of the front desk waiting at the drop-off to meet us and guide us through proceedings. Very much appreciated as we were tired and annoyed, and our son beyond upset. I’d heard to expect things would be quite impersonal given the size of the property and largely self-check in process, but this was the complete opposite; like arriving at an Oberoi in India!

After a quick completion of the usual formalities, we were whisked up to our suite on L64, just under the L65 lounge, and with a view dead-on to Marina Bay and surrounds. The suite was large, modern, well designed, and presented perfectly.

Breakfast was offered in the lounge or Clove restaurant, and we tried both. Clove was preferred for a slightly better range of food, but it was always very busy, and the sanctuary of the lounge was appreciated when we couldn’t be bothered dealing with the zoo.

We were not able to head to the lounge for coughtail hours as our son is too young, but my wife went up and enjoyed that for a few drinks and some canapes, a couple of times. Meanwhile I stayed put in the room, drinking the free mini-bar dry! Yes – free mini-bar is included with the Crest Suites (unadvertised benefit), and they topped up on request whenever asked. Pretty reasonable selection in there too, with beers, wine, various soft drinks, waters, and chocolate.

Only other negative – outside of the breakfast zoo – would be that they have replaced bottled water with a filter tap in the bathroom, which only comes out very slowly and at room temp, vs the bottles that I would have been placing in the fridge before drinking. We just bought some from Raffles City mall underneath, and fitted them into the mini fridge.

Very nice stay 1 of 2 at The Stamford for this holiday. Waking up to this view after the first night was very special:

Back at the hotel after 4 nights in Langkawi - Not much to add from the first stay, except to note that we were delighted to be assigned what is likely the best of the Crest Suites, next door to the Presidential Suite on L66. This is the highest guest floor of the 70-story hotel, with the remaining floors for high end restaurants & bars.

I was also asked about late check out and whether that was needed, and on mentioning that we were not flying out until 8:30PM, we were offered a 5PM check-out! Yes, thanks!

Didn’t take many pictures on the first stay, but we did so when we returned for this one, including another of that amazing view, from 2 floors up… which happened to be on possibly the clearest day I can recall in Singapore! You could see Batam, Indonesia from the room, all day.

Location wise, this hotel is pretty good. Close to everything. For the price we paid, I felt this was a bargain. We were given a room that also had a bath tub as well as a shower. Solid, modern 4* hotel with blazing fast internet. The gym could have done with a little more equipment.

Breakfast buffet component was all cold stuff. Limited but sufficient. Hot options were nice, but after day 2 I felt there could be a little more hot variety. Perhaps something sweet. Coffee tax wasn't applied.

If breakfast isn't included, there are many other options within a short walk of the hotel for breakfast.. Pricing would be steep, but perhaps ok with the Accor Plus discount.

My favourite looks to have been removed from the Breakfast menu 😢
They used to do a superb Fried Chicken and waffles that came with a maple and chilli jam accompanied with ice cream. Had it numerous times there and it was sensational

I would have killed for that one day. I actually gave them the feedback that all those options were too similar. All were basically eggs and meat in a different form.

Thanks for the info, staying here in a month on the same Red Hot rate. As a Plat did you get both the buffet breaky + a la carte? Or need to pay for a la carte?

Got the buffet and one a la carte item.

I forgot to add. There's also a free chocolate happy hour between 3:30pm and 4:30pm. Basically some little nibbles. I think it's just a bit of a ploy to get folks down to the restaurant/bar but it's a nice tough. Nothing amazing and if you miss it, don't feel like you've missed out. If you're around, it's worth popping by.
