How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Just had points posted for a recent stay but also an extra 500 points with the description "Employee offer 500 points". Anyone have any idea what this is for ?

Was it a Corporate rate?

No booked as Ibis Business fully flexible rate
Did you register for the Business promo? Something like 500, 2500 and 3000 pts after 1, 2 and 2 stays.

I got an email - in German!

Just looked at my account and I have been deducted some points, in fact twice: this is the statement

Account Regularization : Regularization/Cancellation

Has anyone had this before? Or knows what it means?

Account Regularization : Regularization/Cancellation

Yes, had it a few times. Usually means they have given you the wrong points so rather than manually adjust it they cancel it and process the correct amount. You will probably see a transaction that shows xx_x points followed by the account regularisation and then the new figure

First time I have had it, both lots of points (not huge amounts) deducted on the 23/2/23. My previous last stay was 10/12/22, but no credit points matches the deducted points amount. My next stay was on 15/3/23.

So not sure where it was regulated from. Hoping they don't take out any more!

Property: Sebel Canberra Civic
Status: Accor Plus Platinum
Room booked: Executive King
Room upgraded/type: No, but only category higher was a 2br apartment
Rate: Flex rate through corporate TA, $197pn
Free internet: Didn't use
Free Breakfast: Yes, a la carte
Early check in/late out: Neither requested
Welcome drink: Yes, choice between bottle of red or wine. Went for the red and got another bottle of De Bortoli Legacy Shiraz to add to the many other bottles in the cabinet at home (Accor must have done a bulk buy, I get these everywhere)
Welcome gift: No

I stayed at the Sebel quite a few times during lockdown in 2021, and had been a little disappointed at the lack of recognition then, but that seems to have improved more recently.

Rooms are very well maintained and would be ideal for both short and longer stays with a fully equipped kitchen. There was a solid work desk next to the window and a small two-person dining table. Bedding was very comfortable.

Breakfast was at Our Place on London, a cafe/bar connected to the hotel lobby. The service here was great. On arrival I was seated and given a menu to select any item with a hot or cold drink. I picked the shakshuka and was imagining this would be baked eggs, but the dish was poached eggs on top of the stewed tomato/onion/garlic shakshuka sauce. In fairness it does say this on the menu and I missed it when ordering, but I've never seen it served this way before. The food was still delicious, and I'm a huge fan of a la carte over buffet anyway - so I need to give the property credit for that.

The coffee was also great, my only complaint is that the mug lacked a handle and it was too hot to hold for about 10 minutes after being served!

Will absolutely stay again in future. Also to add that my corp TA usually has issues with providing my ALL number to properties, but in this case the number came through without any issues and it even showed under upcoming bookings on accor.com, although I couldn't click manage.

Property: SO Auckland

Room booked: SO Club suite
Room upgraded/type: No, but not expected as hotel fully booked. 9th floor (of 14).
Rate: Extortionate
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: No - but came with room rate
Early check in/late out: Not good - see below.
Welcome drink: Yes, two vouchers.
Welcome gift / amenity: Plate of macarons, generic note, bottles of water (replenished twice per day), turn down service.
Exec lounge access: Paid for by room rate.

Have held off posting this as I hoped to have a response to some negative feedback to the hotel. Not surprisingly, none received. So...

Overall a disappointing stay. I have been quite a loyal guest (pre-pandemic) and had some of the very best, truly personal service here from staff in the past - not only during stays but also very caring emails during times of crisis (bushfires, COVID). With Auckland nearly booked out I decided to stay here and pay for guaranteed Club access - at an eye-watering rate.

First, some real positives:
- staff in the Exec lounge were lovely, helpful and kind. Not quite as before but I was new to them so couldn't expect more.
- Spa staff and the treatment also superb - very accommodating of my requests.
- The welcome drinks the best I've had - vouchers can still be redeemed at rooftop bar for anything up to $25 each - which is pretty much everything on the menu, including excellent coughtails.

The negatives:
- Zero pre-arrival communication, including no response to 2 emails I sent to known addresses in advance.
- Arrived 1:30pm. Guaranteed check-in 3pm but did not get my key until 4:15pm. Was able to access the Club while waiting.
- Lounge food OK (nice rich, cold only canapes) but drinks available severely reduced from before. Very basic wine and spirits. A disappointing decline from coughtails and the showcasing of top shelf NZ spirits. The lounge has always been sparsely populated so this is just cheap.
- Breakfast a joke. Buffet cut back to about half what it used to be, and no option to order off the card. I much prefer a la carte - even pre-pandemic, but especially now. A good buffet can overcome. Not this. Staff disinterested - "Sit where you like, help yourself" was my welcome. Barista coffee not promoted but was available. Got mine in 10 minutes but was 25 minutes and counting for the couple next to me. I skipped breakfast the 2nd morning.
- Was promised a 2pm check-out. Upon calling to confirm the night before - no record. I was very unhappy and complained, particularly noting my delayed check-in. Eventually spoke to the duty manager and was given 1pm, plus a bottle of wine as an apology.
- Luxury amenities in the bathroom all gone.

Nothing fatally wrong. But given the ridiculous prices this hotel charges, I was so disappointed at the diminution of services. Too much new (and old favourite) competition in Auckland - so don't think I'll be here again.

A decent hotel, also a bit tired in many respects, but acceptable for a regional property. I was surprised at the room rate being as high as it was. Had no issues in my stay. Overall recognition of my status and loyalty was very poor and well below expectations - I was basically treated as having no status.

Property: Movenpick Auckland
Status: Gold
Room booked: Deluxe room city view
Room upgraded/type: Yes, deluxe room on the top floor.
Rate: Expensive as this was a booking made 2 weeks out because plans had to be changed, but did use 2000 points to soften the price.
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: No, but did pay to have and extensive buffet breakfast with made to order eggs, omelettes etc (50% off Accor Plus)
Early check in/late out: Checkin was at 2 we arrived about 3, room was ready, late checkout of 12pm requested and granted
Welcome drink: Yes, two vouchers. Used at the top floor bar, given a good choice of wines or spirits
Welcome gift / amenity: Plate of macarons, pot of tea and nice welcome card, 2 bottles of water.

Staff were very friendly, didn't have to wait for checkin. Moved to the top floor room which was lovely and bed very comfortable with great shower and nice amenities, although still a city view. No traffic noise, lifts were very quick and not busy. Nice welcome gift as mentioned above. Location was great for a nice walk around the harbour with lots of bars and restaurants and right next to Queen street the main shopping street. Staff told us that we had arrived in time for chocolate hour, there was only a couple of people taking part so lots of yummy choices.

We decided to have dinner in the top floor restaurant and the friendly girl who booked us in said she would give us the best window view table, which she did. Lovely harbour view. Food menu was small but our meal was delicious, but would have been expensive if we didn't have the 50% off dining.

We would definitely stay here again.

First time at the SO Auckland and had a great experience. The room was clearly an upgrade. I was given a voucher and asked for another, thinking that was how they worked for two nights. Not sure if correct, but got two vouchers. each of which could be used for drinks up to $25 in the wonderful top floor bar.
I did not eat at the hotel, so cant comment on food. The bed was great. I was there for NZ Census night. While a census was in the room, there was no request to fill it out (I did).

Would definitely return.

This is my go to for late arrivals to Cairns. Good amenities (as above) and the hotel is nice and quiet, even on a Saturday night. Good emails before arrival, which confirmed I'd get wine and cheese on arrival. Unfortunately no free breakfast - for once I nearly paid for it as I really enjoy the Merchant Cafe food and service; but slept in instead.

Apologies for the simultaneous posts here but I've stayed at 4 different Accor properties in the span of 9 nights that I have to report back on, so I'll start at the top:

Property: Ibis Styles Sydney Central
Status: Accor+Platinum
Room booked: Standard Queen Room, 2 nights
Room upgraded/type: No
Rate: Accor+ Advanced Saver, Bed & Breakfast $197.64/night
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: Yes
Early check in/late out: N/A
Welcome drink: Yes, two vouchers. Used them at checkout to claim my two glass bottles of Coke Zero
Welcome gift / amenity: Bottles of water and a snack (forgot what it was)
Exec lounge access: N/A

Decided to stay here (despite the high rate) as I needed to be in Sydney CBD ahead of a conference and decided to burn some Accor points I accumulated over the prior stays. This hotel was a former Travelodge hotel so that means it was somewhat dated but at least not tacky like much of the Ibis Styles properties I've been to.

Breakfast itself consisted of a standard buffet breakfast with the usual suspects. Not much to write home about but nothing to complain about either:

Property: Mercure Sydney
Status: Accor+Platinum
Room booked: Standard Room, 1 Queen Bed
Room upgraded/type: No?
Rate: Accor+ Family Fun Offer, Bed and Breakfast - $179/night
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: Yes
Early check in/late out: Given 9 AM early check-in ; didn't need late checkout
Welcome drink: Yes, one voucher. Used it for a takeaway coffee on the last day
Welcome gift / amenity: Bottle of wine, bottles of water and small box of chocolates
Exec lounge access: N/A

Stayed here for aforementioned conference in Sydney CBD as it was close to the venue, and thought it was a good deal for a hotel stay. The hotel itself is located on Broadway in Sydney so right across from UTS and just by Central station. The hotel has a number of amenities including a pool, terrace, restaurant, etc. In terms of the room itself, I must say not too bad, the room was recently renovated although there was a smell of latex paint as other rooms on the floor I was on was being renovated:

Breakfast was offered at the restaurant and ran from 6:30 to 10 AM IIRC. Usual mid-tier Accor breakfast buffet spread, nothing to write home about but certainly nothing to complain about either:IMG_9017.jpeg

Would stay here again if the price was the same (or less).

Welcome gift / amenity: Glass bottle of Pure Tassie still water and chocolate

Stayed here this past weekend as a bit of a writer's excursion to Hobart. The hotel itself is located at a decent location in Hobart, fairly close to the waterfront (I reckon a 10 minute walk). In terms of the property it's your typical Ibis affair, frankly nothing to write home about. The room itself though was surprisingly more functional than your typical Ibis Styles room with me actually being able to get some work done from the hotel room with there being a desk like surface. Anyway here was the welcome gift:

IMG_9053.jpeg

As an Accor+Platinum I got free breakfast which consisted of the usual Ibis Styles breakfast buffet served at the hotel's restaurant on the ground floor. Hours were 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM IIRC:
IMG_9054.jpeg

If there is a gripe I have with the hotel it's that the internet wasn't particularly fast. Certainly if you wanted to watch streaming videos or download large files, you would struggle. With that being said, I would recommend staying here, particularly if the price is right!

This hotel was booked out of necessity since JetStar decided to cancel my flight back to Sydney about 4 hours prior to departure and with there being no other flights operating that day (and given the fact JetStar will compensate up to $200 for hotels) decided to give this gem a shot, and glad I did:
IMG_9098.jpeg
IMG_9099.jpegIMG_9097.jpeg

The hotel room itself was sleek and modern but I do have a couple of complaints as an Accor member who has been spoiled with good quality hotels in the past. For one thing there was no Nespresso machine, just instant coffee and tea, and a kettle. I thought this was supposed to be a luxury hotel? Another thing you may have noticed is the use of large containers of soap/shampoo with a pump. Again, not something I would expect at a high end hotel like the Movenpick. The last annoying thing about the room was there wasn't a proper desk, just this circular table thing. Not the end of the world but would expect a proper workspace in a high end hotel.

There were two strong points of the hotel which in my opinion made up for these shortcomings: the restaurant and the internet. The restaurant itself (Tesoro) is pretty good. In particular, I call your attention to the breakfast. Now I've stayed at many Accor properties over the past few months, and all of them from the cheapest Ibis property to the Fairmont Blue Mountains feature a breakfast buffet. I've got nothing against buffets, and in some cases they can feel premium if properly plated (look at the Emirates lounge for an example there) but at least at Accor properties I stayed at, I couldn't tell the difference between it and a $25 all you can eat buffet I can get at Harrahs in Vegas. This hotel was different: as a Platinum you ordered whatever you wanted off the menu and it was free
IMG_9103.jpeg
IMG_9105.jpegIMG_9104.jpeg

I have eaten at this restaurant last year for lunch when they had the table d'hôte was offered and enjoyed the quality of the food. This breakfast was no exception either. Way better than the mass produced buffet cough you get at most Accor properties. The other saving grace of the hotel was the aforementioned internet speeds. Very quick and responsive with me downloading a 1 GB file in a 3 minutes (my benchmark for good internet speeds). Certainly if you have a teleconference or important event and want to ensure your internet isn't cough Movenpick is where to stay.
