FINNAIR - new Business Class AirLounge seat

The Russian airspace closing is really hurting AY and its niche was essentially removed overnight just after covid. I hope its able to survive.

I just dont understand why airlines would do this. How much are they saving per pax per flight? $10? Just charge the customer $10 more and be done with it. I don't think that $10 is going to make or break someone's decision to pony up for J.

Exactly.

In Y, increasing fares by $10 may result in leaking significant numbers of customers to the competition. In J, not so much - people paying for J are less price sensitive and will pay for the service if they can see the value (not just in terms of money, but in terms of the product offered).

No doubt, but I’ll take honesty over spin that borders on fantasy.

They could have gone with “enhancements based on customer feedback.”

Agreed. It's refreshing to see some honesty.

I disagree. Why should someone who doesn't drink Champagne have to pay $10 more for their ticket just so someone who does drink Champagne can enjoy it? A different approach may be to have charged for Champagne in J, but then there's still a cost to the airline for purchasing it and carrying it, whether it's consumed or not, so the saving would be less.

Why should a vegetarian pay for the J menu to have a steak option when they don't eat it? Or why should the person who doesn't wear pyjamas in J pay for a pair to be available onboard? Just charge the pax who want them.

When flying J it's about having the options available to you. If that extra $10 is an issue, I'd suggest the whole concept of J is probably not for that person. A LCC model where you for what you use would be more suitable.

Or Elk and Reindeer! Yum. I missed that on my last few flights.

I’ll also miss those cute little bubbles… Hopefully it’s only temporary.

Why should I have to pay for others to drink water when I don't? ... Because it's an accepted part of the whole package.
Besides, why should I pay $$$ to fly J (and believe me these have been "champagne prices" of late!) which includes a champagne offering only to be told that although we paid for that it was no longer available?

Is transportation the only industry where service details are provided and contracted only for the supplier to be able to remove them at their discretion?

Swings and roundabouts I say…
I don't drink alcohol and fly J
Dont begrudge that I am subsidizing those who do
Some pax eat nothing during the flight - others everything offered..
Only LCC offer the PAYG model
I suppose they could institute at front of plane ie HCC but frankly why bother. We would be paying for the ‘baseline’ fare and then Krug/food etc on top (would make for a joyless exercise IMHO) and that ‘baseline’ fare would of course be high enough for profit as if everyone drank Krug

My $0.02 worth

Edited to add: There could be more diverse non-alc offerings but I would not change my decision to fly J

I agree with others. No one would even notice if they added $10 to every J fare and I’d go as far to say that most wouldn’t notice or care if it was $100 extra

Yes they do but what is probably more pertinent is that competing airlines flying the same SH routes as AY eg. BA do serve Champagne.
I thought only AY serve the HEL-MAN and HEL-LHR routes. Didn't BA stop flying to Finland?

Not temporary - 4 BA flights per day but all codeshares on AY planes.

While they will be offering English sparkling wine in additional to champagne now, I wonder how long that's going to last.

I did not state that it is "made known" but "known". Plenty of observational experience on what is offered, plus Qantas themselves highlight that they offer "Australian wines" (ie non-French) in J ...
