Perfect, thank you both @encryptededdy & @jpp42
I will go ahead and make the new booking and cancel this one. Travel is in September so avoids the peak period as described in the cancellation policy.
I know it's how airlines work, but it's very frustrating that adding the AMS-LHR leg to the original leg of LHR-MEL (exact same flight) results in such a big fare decrease!
Would the fare decrease be due to the higher taxes for a LHR departure?

Japan sale fares still seem high, the only decent J sale in last 5 months was the NOU one; compare with the NZ and Fiji J fares available same period last year.

Im hearing anecdotally that near impossible to find space on Japan tours this year, as there were so many sitting on covid credits, that saving on airfares will be offset by higher accommodation and activity cost.

Would the fare decrease be due to the higher taxes for a LHR departure?
Nope. More based on the O&D market of AMS-MEL vs LHR-MEL. QF can get a bigger premium out of LHR vs AMS (more competition and they are not a big player in terms of sales) so lower fare for connection backhaul via London I presume.

So this is done with for now. From what I'm hearing about call wait times this is a good thing for the punters if things might be a bit back to normal (whatever that is for QF these days!)

anyway so I was wrong about it. I didn't think QF would do it but they did - congrats to all who have taken advantage and reap the rewards (literally and otherwise :) ).

Now A suggestion for future threads...

a FAQ or pinned post with all the usual questions answered would be great maybe - as over and over people can't be bothered reading 20+ pages (or apparently QF's FAQ's in some instances) and post similar questions. Not a knock on anyone in particular - I understand - but maybe helpful to all to work on a "Bonus SC promo FAQ" that of course can be modified to fit the particular promo.

things I'm thinking of:

- QF metal (including QFlink flights) are OK
- source of booking (webjet, amex credit etc) will not affect earning
- any QF flight worldwide will qualify
- codeshares on EK/JQ (etc) will not
- changes to date/time won't affect bonus SC's as long as the new dates are within the promotion period
- CR earn for those with PC/PC+ will receive bonus SC's
- CR's booked using other airlines' miles will qualify if QFF# is in the booking at time of flying
- upgraded flights will earn bonus SC on base fare type paid

There may be some others I've missed.

Might save on some of the repeat posts and general confusion for punters.

Well, that’s a wrap everyone :) until next years’ DSC thread commences 😀
Well done to those who have secured flights to get DSC to retain or gain status.

With our travel plans/ family commitments already locked in till February, could not get myself sufficiently organised and also was a bit slow off the mark to get NZ J fares, so only doing domestic return Y run MEL-TSV for a few days on Magnetic Island.

I am waiting/hoping 🤪 for DSC to come out October or March to get the required 250 SC to retain SG.
Happy travels all ✈️

My split PNR experiment is scheduled for a week from today!

I didn't make any bookings for myself but I did manage to get a few in for my boss who is keen to hang on to WP. Didn't book his big international trip though as QR was much cheaper and more direct. He will still earn, just not as good.

Prices have gone up for the ones I booked over the last week (J to NZ and SIN, both in shoulder periods for 3 pax), so I'm happy... I was holding off for DSC to book them, and was going to do that in April if it hadn't showed up by then.

Cheers,
Matt.

Saw this on Facebook:
No roo on the tail, no DSC.
Simples.
(NB - There may still be some Alliance aircraft which have not been repainted.)

Gonna be a NZ sale after the current Japan one I reckon, welcome back $1000 I fares!
Slightly O/T

Used a pre-Covid travel credit yesterday.
Booked via the travel credit portal using my last name and booking reference.
Fare was NZD255.00 higher than if I made a new booking.
Called QF was told there was nothing that can be done.

Which is exactly why I haven’t used my travel credit. I do hope that the ACCC looks into this

Which is exactly why I haven’t used mine.
I just wanted to use it.
Original fare (booked in FEB20 during the DSC promotion) is non refundable, however yesterday's fare has a lower change fee. (NZD100 v NZD125).

Not surprising for the dates.

Absolute lowest peak for Japan travel as there's not too much happening and the weather gets progressively hotter. This was also the period where they released every seat to Japan and HK as reward late last year.

O/T but picked up a couple of vouchers while sitting in Jal Sakura lounge at HND last night as speculations. Ill use up $100 pretty easily at some point even if DSC GV doesn't work.

Then it’s not so simples 😊

As as far as I can tell -

If QF code on non QF owned metal Emirates - no DSC

If QF code on non QF owned metal Alliance# - DSC

#Subject to offer but currently not controlled

Managed to get PER-SYD-DRW-ADL-MEL to stick on AS for 20k points. Fingers crossed, should get 132 SC (or 264 during DSC)

I was able to get PER-xSYD-xDRW-xBNE-MEL for 20K but it took some effort. I first booked just DRW-xBNE-MEL and called to add PER-xSYD-DRW. While that combination showed on AS, it fell over at the purchase stage. The AS agent blamed it on QF. I cancelled the whole booking and told the agent I'd be disputing the USD12.50 non-refundable partner charge because the AS website clearly says 'Free to cancel within 24 hours'.

Next, I booked PER-xSYD-DRW, then called to add DRW-xBNE-MEL and that worked fine. Taxes were about $90. I calculate an earning of 142x2, which I think is exceptional.

I know what the T&Cs say re: vouchers, but is the general consensus that vouchers purchased during a DSC period can in fact be used for bookings made after the promotion period (for travel within the appropriate DSC window) and still receive DSC? Or is it very much a gamble?

The way I read it (and the way I'll be reading it to QF if it's a problem) is the "promotion period" is 29 March 2023 to 28 February 2024. In the absence of a definition of "promotion period" to the contrary, that's also the way I'll be reading it to Qantas, particularly given the particularly sentence of the T&Cs mentions both "promotion" and "promotion period". To me "promotion" can be interpreted as the limited five-day window; the "promotional period", meanwhile, is the 11-month period.

Just threw another work flight in last minute… it’s a little speculative and I may have to change the date / time.

Does anyone know if you keep the same PNR and just amend the booking of it still earns DSC? (Flight will still be flown in the valid window).

Yes that’s fine

The fine print suggests it's no so clear cut:

If you cancel your initial qualifying booking or change it to be outside the promotional period, the double Qantas Points or double Status Credits offer will not apply.

Alternatively, if my argument for what the "promotional period" is, as outlined above, then you're fine. I suspect, however, that it won't be an issue to change a reservation outside the five-day period and still earn DSCs, provided the PNR stays the same and you travel in the 11-month window.

"Read the T&C before posting your question" (seriously.. it's not hard..)
...

There's plenty of ambiguity and lack of clarity in the T&Cs. Beyond that, not everyone is a savvy flyer. RichardMEL has a great idea.

Given the relentless questions over and over again on some of the Facebook groups, I can only image what sort of questions the call centre were getting (Does my codeshare flight on Jetstar/Emirates/etc count? Does booking through FlyBuys/Amex/Webject/FlightCentre count)

I really don't think a pinned post would make much difference. They're not reading the T&Cs, so I don't think they'll read through a pinned post.
