Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

So 50% of Jetstar domestic departures from Melbourne after 5 are cancelled.

I would take a guess and say crew sick call ins. Nice weather in Melbourne today as well as NYD, who would want to work I guess.
 
On Monday 2 January 2023, JQ202, the 0620 hours AKL-SYD had a very late start, not becoming airborne until 0810 hours. A320 VH-VGU should arrive 70 minutes late at 0910 AEDT.
 
Very late?? By JQ standards that's almost on time!

On Wednesday 3 January 2023, JQ1007 operated as what may have been an 'extra' from MEL to SIN, being a scheduled 1200 'high noon' departure with B788 VH-VKA. It did not take off until 1909 in the evening, arriving SIN at 2327 hours, 397 minutes past the timetabled 1650 hours.

It has then formed JQ8, the 2210 hours SIN-MEL up up and away at 0132 this morning. MEL arrival is suggested as 1122 hours, 172 minutes tardy.

Interestingly, yesterday's JQ7 did operate as normal yesterday with VH-VKJ, less than an hour late, which would have caused less delay if it had turned into JQ8 rather than waiting on the equipment from JQ1007. VKJ doesn't seem to have gone anywhere since, maybe it's due for maintenance in SIN? I note that JQ7 was cancelled on Monday 2 January, which may be the reason an extra flight was needed yesterday.
 
I don’t believe 787 maintenance is done in Singapore (HKG from memory). They have had multiple breakdowns in Singapore in recent months that took weeks to fix as they couldn’t get the engineering done right away.
 
Friday 6 April 2022 sees JQ7, the 1520 hours MEL up to SIN delayed beyond 1630 hours in taking off, so arrival should be well above half an hour late.

UPDATE: It has been further delayed to predicted pushback at 1710 hours.

B788 VH-VKL is on JQ11, the 1030 hours OOL-NRT airborne at 1317 for projected at gate arrival of 2034 hours, 124 minutes behind the schedule. On four of its five previous flights, this plane has been between 75 and 143 minutes late arriving. One other flight arrived 25 early.

Also on 6 January 2023, JQ37 (B788 VH-VKJ, the 1745 hours late afternoon SYD-DPS airborne 90 minutes later) should arrive at about 2205 hours, 65 minutes behind schedule.

VH-VKD is in the reverse direction but has destination MEL, with arrival likely at 2151 hours, 36 minutes late.

JQ17 (1520 hours MEL up to HKT) was in the sky at 1713. VH-VKF's arrival should be at 2129 hours, 79 behind.
 
Sunday 8 January has JQ37 (class leader B788 VH-VKA) on this 1745 hours SYD-DPS flight departing at 2020 hours, so it's probable it'll be two hours plus late arriving in the Balinese holiday paradise.
 
On Monday 9, JQ8 (B788 VH-VKL, the 2210 hours Sunday 8 SIN-MEL airborne at 0030 this morning) is arriving at a suggested 1020 hours, 110 minutes late.

JQ18 from HKT to MEL has VH-VKE with arrival likely at 1126 hours, 81 minutes behind schedule.
 
A320 VH-VQQ won't be setting a record for unpunctuality regarding JQd flights, as that would be a high bar, but from 8 January 2023 on the 0955 hours MEL-PPP it's now into eighth consecutive badly late flight, with Tuesday 10 January 2023's JQ403, the 0705 hours OOL down to SYD not airborne until 0900, meaning (with the one hour time difference) likely SYD arrival at 1111 hours, 96 minutes late.

And yesterday's JQ447 (2040 hours OOL-MEL) that it was apparently meant to operate got the flick.
 
JQ7 (Melbourne to Singapore), in a freak occurrence, landed on-time (early, in fact) on the 9th of Jan, therefore ending its streak of 32 late flights in a row (Nov 30 till 8 Jan). This beats the previous JQ7 late streak record of 20 late flights in a row of 26 Aug to 25 Sept.

JQ47, the new flight to Seoul, has now been on time for an impressive 3 flights! This means that flight is on time about 10% of the time since launch.

JQ43, the Melbourne to Bali flight also recently had a freak occurrence, in that it landed on time on the 5th of Jan (well, 13min late, but that's close enough for on time). This is its first on-time landing since the 5th of December, ending its 30 flight delayed streak.

Indeed, 13 minutes late at gate (not landing) would be within the '15 minutes or fewer' official definition of 'on time'.

In these threads, I rarely if ever record late running of less than half an hour late arriving at a gate or the equivalent aircraft apron designated position, even though a delay, especially over 15 minutes, can be peeving.

I allow five minutes from landing to gate: this won't always be 100 per cent accurate, but it's a median. Obviously it depends on which runway is used and what airport/

Monday 16 January 2023 sees JQ36 from DPS down to MEL (A321 VH-OFQ) forecast to arrive 44 minutes behind schedule at 0759 AEDT.

JQ48 from ICN to SYD is noted for almost continual unpunctuality. This 2155 hours Sunday 15 redeye with B788 VH-VKD took off at 2253 hours so on Monday 16, arrival should be 1045, half an hour late.

The DPS-SYD JQ38 is worst, with this flight expected to arrive at 1003 hours, 118 late. Aircraft is VH-VKK.

JQ43 (Sunday 22 January, B788 VH-VKJ, the 1005 hours midmorning MEL to Bali's DPS) was in the sky at 1113 hours with suggested arrival 1335 hours, 40 minutes down.
 
My JQ28 tomorrrow midday just got cancelled, presumably because of whatever issue caused the above return to gate, meaning a 788 is now out of action.
