I booked a trip solely on points (i.e no taxes component). I have a TID annual multi trip policy.

The trip was cancelled but there is the option of taking it if I fly first to another city (which will incur about $1500 in costs).

Having never claimed on insurance before, is there a way for insurance to cover the costs of flying to another city and taking the trip or am I dreaming?

The provider may offer a full refund

This is a case where you would contact the travel insurer, advise them of your situation, and ask them what action you should take. If you are covered they’ll tell you what information they require, for example a note of cancellation from the airline.

If you are covered they may accept the cost for travel to another starting point, or they may be willing to pay for a new ticket from your original starting point.
