So after a huge amount of looking for largely non-available reward flights on AA, I managed to snag some flights a couple of months ago for travel in Sept/Oct

SYD - SIN QF Y
SIN - CDG (via HEL) AY J
FCO - DOH QR J (suites)
DOH - SYD QR F

Basically it took me ages to find anything coming back and when QR availability came on board I pretty much jumped on it). In fact it disappeared so quickly that even though I booked my wife back J all the way a week ahead of me, by the time I went to book only F was available (not that that is a great hardship). But by the time I booked the return leg all good flights over had also disappeared (mainly on JAL).

Anyway I booked and thought I'd keep a lookout for better flights and waitlist for a few SQ options, and if worse came to worse for the SYD-SIM leg (which is daytime incidentally) I can get extra legroom seats and use a couple of my lounge passes which are about to expire. Well availability has not got any better (in fact much worse), none of the SQ waitlists have come through.

So, plan B, get the extra legroom seats and like Qantas passes. First part works fine but can't link the Qantas passes because of course my (and my wife) have their AA numbers against them. Any way to get around this?

I was going to suggest going to the AY site and changing your FF number from AA to QF (works for revenue flights). I then tried this to see if I could change an existing QF reward booking to my BA, AA, or QR FF number and it did not work. Maybe you may have a different outcome as you are changing a booking made with AA miles.

Pre covid I got around this by putting mrsdrron's WP number in If the awards were coming from my AA account or my BA gold if coming from mrsdrron's AA account. Something to think about for future trips.

Yes I did think in retrospect I should have put my wife’s QF number rather than her AA number!

I would expect a call to AA and asking them to change registered FF account to QFF should work ok. Obviously being FF award flights there won't be any earning, but let the AAgent know why you want the QFF account in the booking and I would expect they will be happy to change it.

I've been unable to make FF changes on the AY or QR websites for a few years now - I can make changes, but it never sticks to the booking. I've taken to using the RJ website - not sure if it can change reward tickets but may be worth a go.

Thanks for this, tried AY previously and no luck but RJ worked and have now managed to link my lounge invite. This is why I love this forum!
