I have reward flight booked next year to EU

Single itinerary All J , 1. CBR-MXP (QR) return 2. HEL - Mel (QR)

the return leg is not ideal routing, as I was hoping to return from CDG, I managed to find One on EK and booked it. Now issue is if I take outbound flight 1 above I will loose points for 2 .
how risky is it to call qantas to either

A. cancel 2 only
B. split 1 &2 and keep 2 as backup( I suspect not possible)

with all the problems with accidental cancellations , staff incompetence, is it worth the risk ? In A. Above will the agent need to cancel both and rebook outbound ?

other option was book another outbound but there is no J availability from mel or cbr on or about 28/03. Need advice.

I don’t know about the splitting, but next time book as 2 one ways instead of return. It costs the same and then allows for the flexibility you need.
