Emergency landing for Virgin Blue plane

How does a flight from Sydney to Coolangatta make a precautionary stop off in Brisbane. Surely OOL would be closer? Does it not have the facilities required to deal with a burst tyre?

BNE have better facilities to deal with an emergency.

Probably because BNE has the maintenance facilities to repair any damage that may have occurred. It also has a longer runway in case there was a problem during the landing and perhaps better emergency services.

So do they know what caused the Tyre to burst?

You know, I bet if it had been Qantas it would have been all over the media...

Yeah, the most likely reason I believe :) Hope the passengers enjoyed the bussing down the coast!

Wonder if the pax will be offered any compensation?

I'd be mighty peeved if I was flying to OOL, ended up in BNE (fine, no problem, go to safest place,) but to then have a one hour+ ride on a bus - ugh. You'd think the a/c would be needed in OOL and they could sub another a/c and fly it down. Suppose it'd take longer, hence the bus, but still

I can't see any reason for compensation, they still arrived at their original destination and although later than scheduled, this is not a reason for compensation.

What if the reason for the diversion to BNE was weather related? Or a medical emergency? Or OOL was closed because there was a disabled aircraft stuck on the runway? Would those reasons warrant compensation payment?

Hey, chill guys, i'm just asking (not saying it must be so).

/(needs smilie waving white flag)/

The mention of compensation can be like waving a red flag

But since you asked:
