From news.com.au:

QANTAS dumped most of the baggage from a flight between Darwin and Sydney to cut the weight of the plane, except for that belonging to a clown.

Frustrated passengers didn't know their luggage had been left at Darwin Airport until they arrived in Sydney.

Seems strange that the luggage would make the plane to heavy to land, surely there is something else to this not being mentioned by the Daily Terror

Yes, those tiny cars and buckets of confetti are really quite light. I don't think the big shoes made it though.

This is nothing new. Qantas have done this many a time before, the only reason this is news-worthy is the irony that the clown's bag made the treck where as the others had not.

P.S it sucks when your bag does not arrive home, QF don't even care (well apart from the courier) about those cases.

The media love to try and bring Qantas down as well.

Exactly. There's more to this than got in the paper. Unless there were a plane-load of obvious fatties I suggest a snap strike of baggage handlers.
Or perhaps a significant amount of contracted freight that would have incurred penalties if not delivered on that flight?

Strange no mention yet of clowns wearing camel suits

I was joking about the FRAGILE bit, but it WAS taken at Adelaide on a mileage run I did a couple of months ago.

I call BS on this. How is a grainy phone taken video that never shows a box or bag marked "fragile" or proven to be at Adelaide supposed to be proof that Qantas or AAE mishandle luggage?
And I see nothing wrong with the way those boxes were being handled. If the owner cannot package their goods to survive that sort of treatment then they should not be freighting the boxes. I am sure there are way bigger accidental drops than those shown on the video.

and how did the sound of the boxes hitting the belt get picked up by a phone inside the A/C?
