LAX baggage transfer > Melbourne - LAX - Miami

Hi guys,
My Son is off on his first international trip on his own, and is transferring via Tom Bradley, to American Airlines flight to Miami (terminal 4 or 5). It's all on one Qantas ticket, but just wondering how his main bag needs to be picked up and transferred to the next flight. I cant seem to find a great deal of info on the transfer/connections desk in LAX. I'd hazard a guess he picks up the bag from baggage carousel, and heads through final customs check, then finds the connections desk/carousel? something like that - but just not sure of the process .
any help greatly appreciated

Collect bags, go through customs as you do anywhere, when exciting there are several signs and bag drop areas for passengers transiting to other airlines. Drop bag and walk to the American terminal, it's only a 2 min walk to the right when you come out.

It won't be a problem, it always takes longer than I expect so allow plenty of time.

@spongebob , perhaps @serfty will come on explain how to get from Tom Bradley to T4/T5 via the 'interconnector' which I think (still is) easier than going out to the street and re-entering the terminal. Either way, he will need to re-clear security but I understand its easier va the interconnector way.

I prefer to go out the front of TBIT, upstairs and walk outside after a long flight.

If they haven't reopened the TBIT transit security then there is not much choice - around landside to T4 then back to TBIT on the connecter.
