Digital Passenger Declaration to Replace Incoming Passenger Card

Im not saying it will be easy for all, but it was in fact ime much simpler than i had expected it to be based on some of the comments here.

Im not sure that printing scrollable app/web pages using the swipe screen shot function is unique to Samsung - im sure its not.

I had a work iphone once and found it so unintuitive and struggled to do the most simple things, so would never buy one nor recommend one to an older person as way too complicated given only one way to do things and never the way i think it should work. Whenever my Dad needs a new phone i buy him a samsung so i can easily provide support. But other people love them.

Any phone with rfid reader (so any smart phone that you can use for google pay / apple pay / samsung pay / as a credit card) should work, but maybe you need to enable rfid on an apple?

I agree that there needs to be an assisted option for those who cant figure out the phone option, this could be easily done via the web page version and screen sharing.

I'm not sure that your experience is all that replicable for older people or indeed many others who could simply fill in a piece of paper on the plane back. Think about the processes you needed to do and how someone say 60 plus or simply not into technology, might deal with this. Scanning passport page - my app wouldnt, selfie - why when there's a picture embedded in the passport details, and even then yours failed first time, address - doesn't recognise unit numbers, screen shot from a phone that knows to scroll down to capture it? iPhone doesn't. So now we have to have a Samsung? Vax certificate attached to passport anyway. Seems like someone in IT had too much time on their hands.

The selfie is matched against the picture in your passport to verify your identity!

And that seems completely unnecessary. I’ve got full strength on myGovID ID and never used a selfie to verify anything. Medicare Number. DL. Passport Number is ample.
It's the same as using a smartgate - the phot taken is compared to the one stored to confirm a match. They want to make sure the person doing the action matches the person on the passport (who of course will have been fully ID'd)

And there is the problem. I had to shave my beard off. Didn't wait to long for a new passport basically without beard. Now regrown. I doubt the IT guys have fully compensated for that.

It is to verify the person submitting the dpd is the passport owner. When you leave/enter Aus the smart gate also scans your passport and takes a photo of you to match. Dpd is just doing the same.

Dont underestimate yourself Pushka you will be able to get it done. Worst case your son or a friend can do on their phone and then send the image to you.

I think facial recognition copes with changes such as beards. It takes various points around the face to determine a match. The background I think is in the law enforcement context - not easy to escape identification just by shaving your beard!

Facial hair and even weight gain or weightloss makes no difference. The biometric data stored in your passport measures things like distance between eyes which dont change.

In my passport photo im blonde and much much thinner, now im a brunette and fatter, still knew it was me. Just been talking with another guest who did his DPD yesterday, he has a beard now but not in his passport photo and also worked for him.

I had to redo my myGovID recently (dunno why, it just made me). I used my passport as one of the verifications and it did the whole scan and selfie thing described in this thread.

I'm travelling to Oz in May and while I have registered I won't go further with the app as I cannot select a date more than seven days out. (I'm not gunna bother with a trial run.)

I can understand verifying the identity of the person entering/leaving the country.
But just to submit a stupid form?

I guess the PDP might be extended to include the incoming passenger declaration? So they’d want to make sure your customs declaration was actually you, etc.

With Australia dropping the pre departure PCR/RAT test the whole PDP is pretty much redundant unless they start to include the IPC.

So the new DPD form only excludes 55% of the Australian population LOL.

This is a fail from start to finish, despite some people managing to get it to work without much effort. It should work seamlessly for all people in all circumstances.

My face didnt match one time and had to go to the desk. I didnt want to ask if I'd aged completely since the passport photo.....

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

For those that have trouble uploading documents, can I suggest that you use the website and not the App. It was inconvenient to have to do this on holidays, but it’s not particularly difficult. I used it a week ago and don’t recall having to take a selfie via the website.

I have just returned from Thailand and we still had to fill in the Passenger Arrivals Card 🤬 even after having completed the DPD days earlier which had all the same info plus my vaccination status. Asked one of the polite Border Force staff at Sydney airport and she said that the PAC will hopefully be made redundant in the near future and the DPD is really all about the vaccination info. Am I the only one who sees this whole situation as being totally farcical. They knew I was already vaccinated up to the hilt when I left, what, did I suddenly become unvaccinated during the previous 10 days. Total waste of time.

Yup. Even worse if you've entered dpd for transit through Oz on the way out as well. And non Oz administered vaccines means have to manually enter all rhe details which they already have from the previous entry.

Are you talking about the organe form given out on the plane? That has all the customs questions which aren’t on the DPD.

If you have troubles with the app, use the website instead. You will need your login details obviously.
