On my upcoming Europe trip I have a free weekend in Vienna.

Can anyone with recent experience recommend a hotel (preferably < $A2600 per night) and any worthwhile tourist activities to do for my 36 hours there? I'll be travelling on my lonesome...

Cheers

We love the Park Hyatt in Vienna. But it ain't cheap.

I’ve stayed at the Intercontinental Vienna in 2016. Good location. Good hotel and facilities. Priced within your budget I’d think - but I haven’t checked recent prices.

Has anyone had any experience with the Hiltons in Vienna? I've got a small amount of status and points with them from a recent US trip so this might be an option.

Thanks

The hop on hop off bus goes to lots of places. I really like Schonbrunn Palace and if you liked the Third Man you could go out to the Prater and go on the big ferris wheel.

We stayed there in June 2019 and really enjoyed it. There was a good steakhouse close by at the Ritz Carlton. And if you like cheese, then the Meierei at Stadtpark is worth a look. Plenty of good schnitzels and strudel to be had also.

We also did the hop on hop off bus, a great way to get your groundings and see some of the main sights. Even wandering around and enjoying the architecture is nice.

Yes looks beautiful but is out of my budget...

thanks
Considering your budget seemed to be less than $2600, hotel rates must have sky rocketed! :D

Arbo - for something truly different, you might want to visit the Vienna Medical University Museum of Medicine at the Josephinium (named after the Emporer Josephus). It is an incredible collection of wax dummies that the doctors/surgeons in the 1400s used to practice their skills as the RC Church forbade using cadavers. It is 1 of only 2 such collections in the world, the other being in Florence. Also, and this was some 10 years ago, we came across uni students who were on the streets selling the unsold tickets for that evenings' shows. We bought tickets to the morning training session for the Andalusian Dancing horses for about $10, compared to the full dress show that night of about $250. Enjoy.

Thanks - the museum sounds great!

Stayed at the Novotel Wien last trip and it was quite good. Within walking distance of many attractions and has a brilliant paved square just behind the hotel which was a market at times aswell as cafes and restaurants.
Would stay there again
Its a great city to walk around and check out the architecture and sights

If you are just looking for an excellent (small) room on a budget you cannot go past Motel-One. Especially for short stays. Price less than 100 euro per night.

I haven't been to Vienna so not sure if they are located close to tourist spots.

We stayed at the Hilton Vienna Park for a few nights a couple of years back and can happily recommend it.

It’s located next to Stadtpark, and is a 30 second walk from Vienna Mitte station, which is where the airport train arrives in the city.

Nice area and is walking distance to Stephansplatz etc.

I also stayed here in 2017 and paid €146 pn then. They also have a small Exec lounge. Great location.
