Eurowings - option to add a guaranteed empty middle seat for a small fee

I just booked a flight with Eurowings, a German budget airline, and was pleasantly surprised to see that they actively offered you the option to add a guaranteed free neighbouring/middle seat at the time of booking. I selected this option and the price increased by just €3 (around $5). Great idea and a great deal!

I took this flight yesterday and it worked exactly as advertised. There was nobody in the neighbouring seat, which was marked as reserved.



There were around 8 middle seats blocked in this way at the front of the Y cabin.

FWIW the flight was not full anyway.

All I would have needed to do was buy a snack & drink on board for €8 or so and there would have been practically no difference

Well, presumably that's the reason they offered you the option for such a low fee - they knew that would be the case.
