COVID-19 and Tennis

Interestingly then ….just after the Danil ‘don’t call me a small cat’ Medvedev outburst the umpire sets up the sting w the Greek speaking umpire who notifies of the illegal coaching by Tsisipas camp🤔
In this day and age, might as well set up microphones and 'third umpire' cameras on the players' box. Anyone know Russian and Spanish (amongst the languages) for the men's final?

I watched the end of Ash's match, and the presentations and interviews.

Ash is a wonderful woman who has worked damned hard to achieve what she has to date and will in the future.

No histrionics or sensationalism. just a great fair dinkum woman who can be very proud of her victory tonight and subsequent interviews.

Having Evonne Goolagong there was a wonderful surprise and the joy on Ash's face upon hearing she would present the trophy was wonderful.

Also fortunate enough to be at RLA for tonight. Looks like the crowd for the doubles will be quite rowdy with the amount of people in the bar line…

It wasn’t the best match I’ve been to from a playing game perspective but certainly it was the best atmosphere and celebration 🎉. Very sore head this AM 😂.

The last time when an Aust woman won, it was on grass I think? I remember going to the men's final at Kooyong in the 1980s and I'm sure it was on grass. It was also December I think. And it was in daytime. The old days, kids. Things were different 😂

I know a couple going tonight (2 side view tix @ $875 each 😱) and they told me they wil def be keeping their masks on. They really don't want to test positive and have to miss work. (He'll be the guy in the pink shirt sitting somewhere up behind the umpire's chair 😜😂)

Matt Ebden launched a attack on McGowan after their loss in the Men’s Doubles Final last night and claimed he probably wouldn’t have played in the AO had he know that McGowan was going to backflip on border opening.
His heavily pregnant wife is back in Perth and he will now have to serve his 14 day quarantine period and most likely miss the birth of his child

In 2012, I paid $390 each to watch Djokovic play Murray in the Final...these were the cheapest tickets and right up in the grandstand! Tickets are getting so expensive now, not to mention flights to Mel and hotel costs!

I guess some have more cash to burn than others ;)

Yes, Kooyong AO was on grass ... with the move to Flinder's Park* in1988 the surface for the AO changed to "Rebound Ace".

They were having trouble getting the best international tennis players with a December tournament.

*In 1996 it was renamed Melbourne Park to better advertise the City.
