I found out that the rate varies with the category of purchase, but for a car or wine it's 0.73-0.74c per point.
Didn't enquire about any other categories, however you can do a part payment for your purchase.

For reference; furniture also comes in at the 0.73c per point value based on the quote I received to satisfy my curiosity.

Received the following email today. Not seen anything like this previously.

'Use your Qantas Points, your way As a valued Qantas Frequent Flyer member, we wanted to find even more great-value ways for you to use your points. Introducing your new limited-time, invite-only rewards service, where you can reward yourself with (almost) anything.'

Hi DR Ralph,

Introducing your invite-only rewards service. Created especially to reward our high points earners.

From that musical instrument you've always wanted, to that designer handbag you've had your eye on, or even paying for school fees - now, you can use your points on (almost) anything, for a limited time only.

Before you start:
  • Be sure to choose your reward carefully, as you'll only be able to use your points for this service once.
  • Your reward must be approximately between AU$5,500 and AU$37,500 in value.
  • The vendor must accept credit card payments so we can process the payment, on your behalf and must be based in Australia.
So, what are you waiting for? Don't miss the chance to reward yourself with (almost) anything until 31 March 2022.*

Breaking news - offer is extended!

Due to popular demand, we’ve extended your limited-time, invite-only rewards service until 31 March 2022.* You now have even more time to use your Qantas Points on (almost) anything.

Looks like uptake was lower than expected and they have opened it up to more people.
Or, they had this planned from the start!

and they have opened it up to more people.
Perhaps, but from what I can see I would have satisfied the criteria for several years, yet this is the first time they've contacted me.

So seems to me that this isn't an extension of any previous offer, but a new offer.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The "extension" of this "exclusive offer" (lol) email I got stated till 31 March.

I have zero interest, as I did last year.

I received the offer today, but didn’t receive the original so they’re obviously keen to offload some points - which is weird to me, surely holding the cash is better.

Has anyone actually used this service yet?

The cynic in me says this is another way to wear down liabilities, get lucrative payments from third parties, keep QFF so profitable and distract members from redeeming points for (gasp horror) actual flying!

I don't this is cynical at all. Seem likely to me to be very factual.

My guess is that people who accumulate serious amounts of points are more clues than the average collector (though there will be some exceptions who are so busy flying that they accumulate more than they can value)

I received the exclusive invitation today too, first time. They must really be scrapping the bottom of the barrel as I don't have that many points to make the effort in finding and getting approval for a reward worthwhile.
