Introducing your new, invite-only rewards service. Created specially to reward our Points Club Plus members.

From that musical instrument you've always wanted, to that fine art you've had your eye on, or even a wedding dress - now, you can use your points on (almost) anything, for a limited time only.

How it works:
1) Choose your reward (from approx. AU$5,500 including GST in value). Exclusions apply.
2) Call our specialised team on (02) 8376 7651 between 9am and 5pm, Monday-Friday to check if your reward is eligible.
3) We’ll make the purchase on your behalf and deduct the points from your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.

Before you start:
  • Be sure to choose your reward carefully, as you'll only be able to use your points for this service once.
  • Your reward must be approximately between AU$5,500 and AU$37,500 in value.
  • The vendor must accept credit card payments so we can process the payment, on your behalf and must be based in Australia.
So, what are you waiting for? Don't miss the chance to reward yourself with (almost) anything up to 31 December 2021.*

Terms:

Anyone else get it?
No mention about the points:dollars ratio, would be something to ask over the phone.

I saw it as QFF desperately trying to reduce its unredeemed points liability. It was already worth 2.5B in 2019, I can only imagine now with the gazilion points people have accumulated during the past 20 months!

I guess the ratio is at 0.73, considering the min redemption is at 5500AUD for 750000 points.
Can buy a lifetime toaster supply for this!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

How is this a valuable service?
It's valuable for those who value their points at 0.73 cents.
Coincidently, that's not too far from how much I currently value my points based on all my past redemption and the dollar value I assigned to it (which is different / lower than the value Qantas assigned to it).

This has got to be a world first? Basically anything that you can buy using a Mastercard, Qantas will pay for on your behalf using points (unless it's a service or travel related).

I wonder if you can buy gold bullion with a Mastercard? Could be an easy way to cash out your points.
By the looks of it you can although some add a card fee. The mint also sells some very expensive collector coins sets.

So it's invite-only but anyone can call for a quote?

This feels like something the ATO will be watching quite closely.

You've got to be in points club plus or have earned 1m+ points in the last 12 months (very exclusive ;)).

To be fair QF does state they have final say over what they allow you to buy. So if there is anything that could have implications from an ATO perspective then you'd hope they'd be smart enough to say no.

I'm not following. Anyone who has earned 1m in 12 months would've been PC+ long ago (like 650k points ago)

I don't see how this is relevant. The problem is that QF has assigned a monetary value per point by allowing you to buy almost anything and giving a fixed exchange rate. This is contradicting their terms which state points have no monetary value. This poses an issue from an FBT perspective, or that's my understanding.

This is not really new. This can be done with gift cards (or prepaid credit card if you need more flexibility) via the Q store, albeit with a less favorable exchange rate.

I received this offer and may take QF up on their challenge but nothing like what the website tiles mentioned. This will sound decadent to some however I like nice watches. If QF can organise a points redemption for the retail price for a Rolex GMT, Patek Nautilus or AP Royal Oak I will part with some of my points. Sure these are expensive watches but some people also spend big money on other stuff I am not interested in, each to their own

Must. Reduce. Points. Liability.

That's what this is about. Nobody has been spending (much) over past two years but earning way more. Must be a massive figure on the balance sheet imo.

incidently I got this too and I am not PC Plus (just PC) nor have I earned 1m points in 12 months (but P1 status may also be a factor and/or a balance > 1m which I currently have).

I looked at it briefly.. thought yep.. desperate (pay school fees with points?!) and moved on.

Sorry I misunderstood it. It's actually anyone in Points club plus or those with a balance over 1 million points:

Who can use this new service?

Australian members with a Qantas Points balance of 1,000,000 points or more and/or who have Points Club Plus status are invited to take advantage of this service.

At at 3.8M redemption for school fees I am assuming this must based on the lower end of the school spectrum.

Invite arrived today. Regular Points Club member but I am sitting on too many QFF points that I won’t waste on this.

I got this too. If they provided some information about the rate to convert to dollars I would be abled to consider it. Right now, it can only appeal if you are desperate to get rid of your points (about to die maybe) or having a casflow crisis.

It's ~0.733c per point. So to figure out the dollar amount multiply your number of points by 0.00733.

I found out that the rate varies with the category of purchase, but for a car or wine it's 0.73-0.74c per point.
Didn't enquire about any other categories, however you can do a part payment for your purchase.
