Would greatly appreciate some help from those in the know about what my options are please for the below basic itinerary.

10 Sep outbound PER
Destination BCN
Star Alliance required
Economy only (paid for by others/work)
Unlimited Citibank rewards points in hand for business upgrade to be used

30 Sep return flight out BCN
Destination PER via MUC stopover for car factory museum trip
As above wrt Star Alliance, Economy, Citibank points for business class upgrade

Approx points balances:
QFF = 100K (gold status)
VFF = 100K (gold status)
Citibank Rewards = 500K+

Price of economy seats = unimportant (others paying)
Airline brand = unimportant as long as can use points to secure business upgrades

Have Priority Pass membership, so lounge access also unimportant. Need perhaps 3-4 days in MUC

Any suggestions?

You are ambitious booking to leave WA...

What year is this booking for? 2050?

Yes I know. It's far from a sure thing, but tentative plans have to be put in place (without money leaving my pocket) just in case a miracle happens and the whole world changes in the next 8 months. The 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic died out of its own accord after a couple of years afterall.

The simple choice for Star alliance is SQ to SIN and LH SIN-MUC-BCN. SQ have codeshares on the flights to MUC.

LHhave 2 flights a day to MUC.Need to overnight in SIN.

LH's SIN/MUC service has been suspended throughout covid. Given the loads on their SIN/FRA services, I can't see the MUC service coming back in a hurry.

Though it did show up when I looked at 10/9/22 which the OP wants. Of course no guarantee for any flights at present but i would expect the pandemic will have a very different look come September. And not a worse outlook.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Most carriers aren't finalising schedules until on average 6 weeks out at the moment. Anything beyond that is an optimistic schedule / pre-COVID schedule.

Assuming LH to get to MUC, if these are codeshare flights with SIA and if I were to book through SIA, then would that mean I can use KF points at the same rate as on a genuine SIA plane for upgrade etc. even if the decal on the plane tube says Lufthansa?

Doesn't appear as though a codeshare is even needed. Looks like you'll need a minimum of 206,000 KF miles not including the intra Europe sectors. Depending on your Citibank card it will probably wipe out your entire 500k+ points balance.

Seriously? Just for upgrade from paid Economy to business? A RTW business ticket with SIA is only 240,000KF
