Dual Citizen India/Australian travelling with COVID

I understood there is a check to see if you have a visa to enter Australia before you board if you don't have an Australian passport.
(I was caught on this some years back when travelling on my UK passport with a >5y old AU permanent resident visa which needed a right to return. IST check-in knew and would only book me through to KUL. Thankfully eventually sorted out by MH though very stressful)
This would be a different scenario from the OP's situation; althought my friend had a very different experience when she was in your situation. This was maybe 1 year before COVID. She had a UK passport, an Aussie PR. SQ checked her all the way from Europe (I think maybe Spain) to Sydney. She landed in Sydney, was taken by Border Force into a room, because her PR visa (which is only valid for 5 years as you said) lapsed. She said she was given a 3 hour lecture by Border Force in the room, before being issued with a one time only entry visa and a warning letter. I remember I read that letter and I found it very funny, which she didn't find funny at all she said. Now I wonder how did SQ check her in if she didn't have a valid Australian visa (and not Aussie citizen) 🤔

Similarly I once had a stressful few hours in London when I attempted to check in for a BA flight to BOM without a visa for India. I had been travelling all year and somehow had the idea I could get the visa on arrival. Luckily for me BA did not cancel the entire rest of my itinerary as they would have been entitled to do, but deferred my flight for 24 hours and told me to hightail it to the Indian High Commission to get the visa.

I agree with the people who are saying that if the OP doesn't get an inquisitive check in agent it will at least be picked up at emigration control when they will look in the Australian passport for the visa and entry stamp to India, won't find it, and then the game will be up.

May be best to forget the direct flight idea and find a third country to transit, on separate tickets, where if they want to see both passports they are unlikely to know or care that there is no entitlement to hold the Indian passport together with another passport.

I think you missed a word. Indian passport is used to enter India, illegally.

There, fixed it for you.

Hey @jamesbp - whatever happened here? Are you still in India, or did you make it out ok?! 🤓

In 99% percent of the cases , you will be stopped at passport control at departure point in India. Unless the immigration officer is not keen on verifying the visa details. And that too with COVID-19 around it is not easy to get away easily and travel on Indian passport on acquiring Aus passport.
