Are there any crumbs for a travel agent if you book using points plus taxes?
I could usefully get advice on and book travel insurance I suppose.

Agents don't receive anything on points bookings due to the fact they are your points.
 
I didn't think a travel agent could book a flight using your points.
 
That's right; unless you give them access to your FF account. This can/does happen, but there are no benefits to the pax in having a booking done this way.

There are benefits when things wrong as the TA has the knowledge

Some agents who know what they're doing with awards can very well be the difference between your award falling apart and your award being a success, particularly in the current climate.
