With the SA outbreak months ago (associated with pizzagate) wasn't that also a visa holder? Don't remember how that ended up (deported or refused permit to stay longer)......Wonder what pressure will be on the French backpacker.

Sorry I don't mean this to be a personal attack but this person felt "unwell" (which could be, wait for it, a runny nose) then got tested and yet this individual will somehow come under pressure? For what, deportation for becoming sick?

His hubris may be his undoing here.

He will stubbornly close borders allowing Delta to get a stronger foothold, ignoring rest of the world's data on Omicron being less severe. May kill off more of WA than is needed.

I read that half of today's positives weren't vaccinated. Who knows if true.

What are the rules for coming into the country? Unsure whether it allows unvaccinated non-resident and non-citizens at this present time.

Maybe any transgression are not that serious to result in deportation (eg didn't test and isolate imediately when symptoms arise).

What a ridiculous approach. Though an understandable side effect of our COVID zero fantasy promoted by state premiers. Thank the lord that is now dead, buried and cremated.

Came across this explanation of quarantine on the Business Tasmania website:

"Isolation is the separation of a probable or confirmed case from other people.
Quarantine is the separation of a person from other people if they have been exposed, this is called being a contact."

I would not expect a minor transgression such as being late to test as being sufficient to deport.

A previous post referred to the WA Premier deflecting to Home Affairs regarding the backpacker, which lead me to query about the rules appearing to allow unvaccinated non-residents and non-citizens to come into the country at this time. Other categories eg international students need to be vaccinated by a recognised vaccine I believe.

We certainly get tied up in knots about things which in the whole scheme of things are unimportant.
As a clinician if I am treating a hospitalised covid patient there is basically little reason to know the genomics of that particular infection. I will still treat them aggressively according to the protocols as hospitalised patients are a hig risk group.
Knowing that they have Omicron and have a better prognosis will not alter treatment as patients with Omicron can go on to severe illness and death.

As I was told as a young un -Why are you doing this test? Just think and if it is not going to alter your treatment is it really necessary.

The Pizza guy in SA misled tracers as to his employment status. His visa was due to expire as well but he wanted to stay.

SA Health would not reveal their discussions with him to Police although they brought the Police in to interview him as they felt there was some deception happening. So I think nothing happened in the end due to lack of evidence and I don't know if he had to leave as his visa expired. He threatened to sue Marshall who had called him a liar. It just went quiet.

Interesting, haven't looked at this table for ages.
Poland has such obviously concerning numbers, no wander given their vaccination rate. Good example how good vaccines work. At least stats reported truthfully there, unlike Russia where real numbers 5-6 times off reported figure.

Some nasty Xmas Eve news from my Sibling's child's pre-school

Got told this morning that another child in the 3yo preschool class had tested positive twice using RATs. Child has done a PCR as well but results in Sydney mostly taking 48-72hrs at the moment, so they are treating themselves as a close contact over Xmas.

7 days isolation, then 7 days limited contact per current NSW Health rules. RATs negative for the family for now.

Also got a former colleague in isolation after having a minor foot operation late last week and being told this week that the surgeon had test positive.

Actually I'd expect any Health official, in the first 6 months of a pandemic, with no vaccination in sight, if they were concerned about what they were being told made no sense given they'd just completely locked down the state on the basis of his story, with no movement allowed outside one's house, to ask for police who are skilled at interviewing, as opposed to tracers who comprised of people who'd never done anything like this before, to do exactly the same. YMCV.
