Australian state border restrictions

Short trips are not going to be worth it especially. People will take less trips but of longer duration. I would imagine that airlines will have to cut status credit requirements but who knows.

It depends, in the real world where travel is pretty much back to normal (i.e. outside of Australia) short trips are very easy.

Certainly with Tas residents returning, 'test-free' for trips under 8 days, my trips will all be short!

Travel's not a lot of fun at the moment. Apart from the mask wearing requirements, I find my tolerance of stupidity being constantly challenged. You fly in on a nearly empty flight and for Covid processing, you find yourself herded into a group with another flight, from another location and in conditions you'd never voluntarily enter. Meanwhile being shouted at by human sheep dogs who've done a one day course in crowd control.

Add to that, constantly changing border requirements, different rules in every State, entry permits that no-one looks at until suddenly they're the most important piece of paper you have, QR check in apps that are subtly different in each State and in the background the consciousness that you are one politician's thought bubble away from being locked out of your home State.

Great fun! Book a holiday today!

Note: above advice relates only to Australia.

Outside, in the real world.... it's much more fun ;) The last month and a half has seen me in 5 countries, soon to be 6.

Come back to Australia for a while. It'll give you some perspective and add extra savour to country # 7...

Depends on the documentation you need to show. You’ll only get a text message from the drive through test - definitely not good enough for international travel.
I wouldn't even know where to get a *paid* COVID test - only know of the mass testing centres and you're right - they do only give you a text message. What is the other thing you need?

Who knows? Only guarantee is that it will be different for every place you need it!

I had a normal test in a drive-through Douglass Hanly Moir in Macquarie Park yesterday. I asked and they gave me a form with a phone number for when I need a travel one (printed copy with lab number etc). No Medicare rebate for them. Might shop around over next 6 weeks

Private pathology clinics will test you and provide a certificate of your test result.

Apologies if I'm bordering political, but WTF is the Federal Government doing about this? It would be so easy to set up a central database for vaccinations. Could even provide a Covid Card. Plastic cards are easy enough to produce. Take the power away from the States with a clearly defined standard.

Nothing as it stands… Places like Tassie can get stuffed if they want something ‘more’ or no one is going to go there apart from desperate family reunification travellers…
It seriously won’t last…

There is a central database for vaccinations.

Most of the talk here seems to be about requirements for testing prior to travel.

Have you forgotten about the Medicare Central database, where your doses, incl batch numbers are recorded - available via a downloadable Vax certificate. 🙂

Do I look as though I care? Best performing economy throughout the pandemic, lack of tourists and all.

Place is much nicer when not overrun by tourists. Prices cheaper, too.

I can assure you there is a large percentage of population that do not want the borders opened under any circumstance. They think, to use an expression, visitors can get stuffed.

That's not fair if they are expecting the rest of the country to subsidise them through GST.

Interesting to see how any state with that point of view will get on in the longer term.

My bad. I was meaning "testing". That's what I get for making a quick comment whilst working on something else!
In theory, all pathology tests get uploaded to the Fed's My Health Record database. That's not accessible to all and sundry, but with a bit ( lot) of money, it could produce a 'testing certificate'.

🤣. Tasmania's share about to go down; WA's ( the one with the huge budget surplus) is going up.

Interesting to see how any state with that point of view will get on in the longer term.
Agree. Fortunately Tasmania not doing it. 🙂

I'm negotiating a Covid testing hurdle at present. I've got to look at a job on a mine site and have to have a negative test between 48 and 72 hours prior. Sounds easy but I'm in Tasmania and flying to Adelaide on a Tuesday. That means getting tested over the weekend and the only way I can do that is rock up to a drive through and use hay fever symptoms as justification. OK, I have now been tested due to having symptoms and will have to isolate until I get results but what if the results don't come through before my Tuesday flight? I can't fly because I'm in isolation. Catch 22!
Only viable option seems to be to get tested at Adelaide airport, then spend 48 hours in Adelaide. That of course pushes everything into the weekend and makes things difficult for those I'm meeting on site.
