Can a QR emerald use the QF F lounge in Sydney if booked on QF flight number operated by FJ?

I think the answer would normally be no, but the "Oneworld Connect" status of FJ confuses me.

Nope, under one world connect only those with BA, QF or CX status get lounge access.

It's even further restricted because someone with Emerald or Sapphire status of the above programs only gets access to their home frequent flyer programs lounges plus the Nadi lounge and only when booked on their home airlines flight number.

Hopefully someone will quietly kill it off and roll FJ in as a full member.
I was under the impression it came down to cost. FJ doesn't want to pay the full membership fees so they've ended up with this instead.

Yes, that's the story at the time. But no other airlines rushed to join that way. There was talk that Alaska would enter as OWC but they went the whole hog.

There was some discussion, excitement and then much disappointment in this thread!

Ah this is a bummer. FJ is offering some great fares right now SYD-NAN-LAX ($1400 return) compared to SYD-LAX nonstop of at least $2500 on UA, DL, and QF at around $3500. But when I tried to price the same itinerary on QF codeshare on FJ metal it comes in at $5000 ! That's an expensive lounge...

Looks like the only benefit of my OWE status will be priority check-in (nice, but meh) and boarding (meh) and a tiny amount of QFF points. Might hold out for lower fares on UA or DL nonstop...

In the past, I managed to nest SYD-NAN return (QF codes) and NAN-LAX return (QF codes) all in J for about $4K. But I wouldn’t risk it in the immediate future but something to consider when things hopefully settle down.

NAN-LAX/SFO/HNL on FJ codes in whY should still get lounge access in NAN with QP (or SG?) or better but not ex-USA ports.

I am only asking out of curiosity as I do not know the answer. What is cost that airlines have to to pay per annum to be a full member of an alliance be it OW, *A or the other one. Is it just cheaper to enter into partnerships, I would have thought yes as this seems to be the convoluted path VA went down.

I'm not sure of the cost, but it's not just cost.

It's rather like joining the EU - you have to adopt certain procedures, policies and standards - which is why it's not an overnight process, joining ow takes years.

So effectively FJ being a member is like being in the EFTA.
