Australian state border restrictions

Love it… (I am a little sad for my WA family stranded though, it looks like the rest of us will all be together.. have a huge family on account of Dad having 6 siblings and we are spread EVERYWHERE)

Love it 😍, unfortunately benefits of the Lone Star Alliance appear very meagre 😂
I'm guessing not spread in the UK, though. Looks like I'm still not going to be able to head down from Christmas. I've lost count of how many years it's been now since I've caught up with my family (and friends) down under.

Oh yes UK family too but this is the domestic border thread so try to contain myself here to my domestic border news and complaints! But honestly it’s been a great Friday on that front!

Apart from anyone hoping to travel to and from WA though unfortunately… as looks like all travel will likely be cancelled as the other states leave them behind one by one…

I just have this (good) nagging feeling though that WA might pull a swifty and join pre-Xmas… they are MADLY mandating vaccines for far more people than NSW and VIC ever did - so they are desperate to open up now….

Pretty much, although we're still waiting for Mrs FB's tourist visa (non-AU passport) to be approved which doesn't happen via state discrimination. Becomes very tiring sitting/hoping/waiting, will likely end up just using my pending non-working days to spend the time travelling around Europe or NA.

Even Beyond Trains don't expect MM to back down. Our Indian Pacific journey arriving into Perth on Christmas Day has been suspended.Fortunately done through our TA who forwarded our message that no matter how they want to phrase it to us it has been cancelled and we want our Money Back.It looks like we may.

Well I'm hoping to go overseas in December, so if I'm to visit family and friends interstate I probably need SA and TAS to open up to VIC late November or the start of December or I won't be seeing them till next year.

Looks like I'll have a busy few months of travel coming up.

Yes, their use of the word 'suspended' always looked disingenuous...

I don't mind putting mine on credit (for the second time) but I have a solo booking.

SA opening up at 80%, still predicted to be around December 3rd.

Tassie open for Xmas, to everyone!

Tasmania to open borders on December 15

Tasmania will open its borders to the rest of Australia on December 15, the state's Premier Peter Gutwein has announced.

"Anyone will be able to enter Tasmania from anywhere within Australia, subject to being fully vaccinated, that's if they're 12 years and over, and having a negative test result within 72 hours of travelling," he said.

He also outlined a curious exception to this rule for Tasmanians leaving the state for less than a week. If a Tasmanian travels to NSW or Victoria for a weekend, they do not need to get a test to return home.
I'm actually thinking kind thoughts about Gutwein. Doesn't happen often so I'm savouring the moment!
Two good things. Firstly he's stated it's a firm date. That is worth so much more than a qualified commitment. Secondly, he's cutting some slack to Tasmanians who are only away for seven days. That's gold to me as we can resume business in NSW.

Has something changed again wrt Queensland? From what Ive read they and Tas require tests prior to domestic travel at Christmas, so neither Tas nor Qld are properly open the way that NSW and Vic will be.

I dont get the logic of 7 day rule for Tasmanians, I mean whether you away 1 day, 7 days or 20 days the risk of a fully vacicnated person getting Covid in Vic or NSW doesnt change.

Agree but it’s not medical logic, it’s political logic and it’s very clear why he has done that.

The logic is sound. The longer you stand outside on a rainy day, the greater the chance you will be rained upon.

WA will pull something. They did last year. They'll do it again.

Mandate 75% of your workforce needs to be vaccinated.
Accidently post that you can enter WA if you are vaccinated, but claim it was an administrative errror.....

This would avoid the Qld nonsense that if you make a one day trip to Syd it seems your 72 hour window starts before you leave Qld. Hopefully some clarity on this one soon

All other things being equal, risk of getting it on any particular day is constant, so the risk progressively increases with the length of exposure (no. of days) in the risky destination .

cheers skip

[Tasmania] Closing on the 16th?

Unlikely ... the Tas Premier said:

"I want to be very clear about this... we are not going to turn back from that date and so today I'm signalling to every eligible Tasmanian over the age of 12, if you're not vaccinated, get it done, and get it done as soon as you can."

Um, no. The risk obviously increases with the length of exposure period, and that applies outside NSW and VIC as well  🤣 .
