Bit of a guessing game, but thought I'd start a thread on when Victorians will be able to travel to NSW without quarantine of any sort.

My guess is 1 Nov, the day NSW allows international arrivals to do so.

Any opposing views?

I note 1 Nov QF has 2 flights, JQ one on the MEL SYD route.

covidlive.com.au predicts Vic will hit 80% double vaxxed on 31 Oct 2021.

So your guess is quite valid.

Whatever date it is, I'll bet any money it will waaaaaaaaaay before Victorians can enter Qld or WA.

Indeed. Although Dan has said we can already leave the state. So it's really up to NSW when they'll let us in!

They usually do a distinction between areas that are in lockdown (the lockdown follows the residents) and areas not in lockdown. So should already be able to travel freely here for most of regional Victoria.
I’m guessing the SOP has fallen away recently.
My guess is it will lift once the overall lockdown in Victoria ends.
It’s not really based on cases/ hotspots from a NSW Health perspective. They have always just applied the lockdown rules in the jurisdiction of origin to those entering NSW. Exception being the closure winter 2020.

Thanks for the insight. Will be interesting to see if it does lift this Friday (when none of Victoria is in lockdown any longer).

The bigger question is when will VIC drop isolate until negative result requirements for NSW. I'm hoping it's when the state gets to 80%

And surprisingly VIC removes barriers to entry to from NSW first. As of 11:59 tonight those that are vaccinated have no test or isolation requirements when entering from NSW.

What @Princess Fiona says is right from my experience. In the past you could travel to Wodonga from Sydney via MEL and back again as long as you didn't stop in locked down Metropolitan Melbourne. Essentially the lockdown would follow you into NSW if you were a Melbourne resident or visited that area.

This time is different in that the whole of Victoria is flagged as what they call High Concern. I expect that to end on Friday when the stay at home orders end. Worst case at 80% DD in Victoria (some are saying that will be reported 29th October and take place the day before).

Knowing the NSW government's form and their enthusiasm to open borders as soon as they can this should happen soon after one of those milestones. If I was to bet on it I'd book Monday 1st. You can always change without penalty at the moment.

Haha thanks, I've booked this Saturday. And I've booked 1st November too!

Both bases covered.

I like your ambition. You'll be able to fly to Sydney no problems. You just need to stay at home (or in hotel) when you get there if the current situation stands.

How much that's being enforced is anyone's guess.

Update us Saturday afternoon!

I’ve been trying to sort out the NSW rules this afternoon. It seems that as a border resident, and as I haven’t been outside of the border zone, I can get a permit to travel in NSW (beyond the zone). We’ll see in about 10 days when I actually try to get one.

Will I be able to connect to an international flight from Sydney? Is that allowed currently?

No. I believe the following:

1)no permit required if staying within the border zone

2)permit required and 14d quarantine if travelling outside of border zone as all of Victoria was declared an Area of concern from 8 Aug

The document trail is as follows:
1)Travellers from Victoria
2)If travelled outside border
3)Stay at home rules
4)Concerns notice

That is true whilst places in NSW are green or orange, not red (or gray!) and it seems all the NSW regions have been downgraded from red/orange to orange/green overnight.

Technically if a region is red then vaccinated people still have to test and isolate till negative. For vaxxed folk, orange is the new red and green is the new orange :)
