It certainly does, over 10,000 people were at home due to contact tracing in the last outbreak.

It's just a matter of who is allowed to use it. Arguably a known contact is more risk than somebody coming from an area of NSW with no cases.
No we don't. They were in home isolation, not quarantine. If someone returns to QLD from a hotspot they have to go to hotel quarantine (and must return by air). There will be a home quarantine trial for boarders returning to QLD soon though.

Technically it’s quarantine until you have it confirmed and then it’s isolation.

But splitting hairs, it’s the same effect and quarantine is less risky than isolation.

I wonder what percentage of Westralians have never been outside the state. Pre covid it was incredibly parochial. I expect covid has simply made that stronger. The overwhelming feeling that I always got from both WA and Qld any time I visited, was 'leave your wallet, but go away'.

Only as long as China keeps shovelling money in to those states in exchange for boat loads of resources will that continue...

I agree - my experience is largely the same. So given the attitudes of their premiers, my resolve to stay away from both these places is strengthening all the time.

Yep. Quite happy to never visit either again. Used to get stuck with Queensland due to family commitments but, with that in the past, I’m quite happy to avoid it like the plague. Ditto for Perth and their overpriced beers.

Does Bali count as inside the state?

Growing up, it was common for us lower middle class folks to go up or down the coast, I think I was 15 before flying anywhere. But my friends with professional or two working parents all travelled interstate or overseas.

Either way, looks like the holiday I was planning for January is off the cards.

I do wonder whether the prospect of full planes from Sydney and Melbourne overflying WA on their way to Bali/Thailand/Vietnam will change the political climate in WA.

I don't think any state would agree to move a border in reality. The bubble is a much better solution.

Even suggesting it is laughable and contradicts so much of what we’ve suffered through for the last 18 months. We’ve got states like Queensland taking their constitutional right to closed borders to full Pyongyang level, then in the next breath saying “oh they’re just arbitrary borders, why not shift them a hundred k’s? Why’s that a big deal NSW?”.

Premier Amateur Hour. And no prizes for guessing who’s leading the charge 🙄

Imagine living just outside the township and not being able to enter a city in your own state due to another state enforcing a no entry point into it.

A bit like how things are in the ACT with our surrounding regions (Queanbeyan, Bungendore, Sutton, Googong etc) at the moment. There is a bubble, but if someone from say Sutton goes to (low/no COVID) Goulburn for something (which is about the same distance as coming in to COVIDy Canberra), they are locked out of ACT. Complex and the reality of shared commerce and families does not really match to the lines on the page.
