Well you could tighten up the definition of essential. e.g. is construction really essential?

Im going to say new home builds is yes, essential plus most tradies only work in small groups/teams and not when other tradies are on site. Families with new homes being built are being financially stressed as well by the delays

So if Victoria makes bike stores permissible, and NSW doesn't - except if you can justify that it's essential, you think the Victorian approach is better?

The permissible businesses list is pretty similar between the states. I'm sure there are grey areas on either side.

Maybe NSW will do some back-pedalling?

My friends and I often talk about this, it's quite similar to the UK and USA. They're far freer than us now (UK has a better outcome because they are pretty much at 80% double jabbed, the US is not).

I think the Queenslanders and West Australians will look on with envy if they're still subject to lockdowns for single cases when NSW (and probably VIC) are living life almost completely normally; exactly how we look to the UK and USA now.

Completely impractical as would leave major hospitals non functional, if you take Westmead (which includes Children's hospital), Liverpool (major chemo centre), Fairfield, Bankstown, Blacktown and other hospitals out of the network you are leaving well over a million people with no emmergency care,

Note I excluded doctors and obviously hospitals remain open.. I'm merely suggesting a much harsher definition of authorised/essential workers and near total shutdown of businesses in the core LGAs is needed for a short period to shock down infections and give us time to get people vaccinated.

And if you can maintain say police services for two weeks by drafting in police from outside the LGAs then you do. It's all about stopping the workplace spread for two weeks, which kicks down family spread.

Without any changes those major hospitals are non-functional shortly anyway.

The current R has NSW at 1000 cases by end August and 5000 by end September, the majority in the S/ SW of Sydney. That's well before you get anywhere near enough vaccinations.

By that point your emergency wards are overloaded... And you have few doctors or nurses that aren't either infected or isolating after being a close contact.

Whatever else you think of her in regards to speed of lockdown, she’s always been the most pragmatic and forward looking of the premiers in terms of laying out a way forward to relative normality. It’s clearly a balance though, even today she was asked if spending time on describing future points of relaxation was confusing people when we still have high number of cases. Not confusing me but clearly some of the journalists seem to be and they are supposedly intelligent people.

I know! I took driving lessons with my dad on the old wharf area in the late 1970s and that is now all upmarket apartments and eateries! I went to the Star before the riot! I went to the Castanet Club when it was amazing! I went to Newcastle Uni when the suburb was not defined - certainly not called Callaghan, before the John Hunter Hospital existed! Before the M23! So pretty old school. But I’ve really liked what I see on my infrequent work trips and passing through to Queensland trips when those were things I was allowed to do. Maybe one day I will be allowed to visit again.

Also looks like Central Coast and Wollongong/Shellharbour have now been removed from the Covid definition for Greater Sydney.

So travel passes will be required for authorised workers.

Interesting point, when NSW gets to 80% double jabbed, why can't Sydney international arrivals come straight in if they're vaccinated and come from similar locations like the UK? Do we really need to wait for QLD & WA if their borders are shut anyway?

I doubt they would know. They don't ask many questions when you get tested.
