Deputy Premier indicated that only Newcastle* and WNSW would stay locked down (in addition to Greater Sydney) at the end of the week.

I think he’s a bit of an optimist. You’d almost keep the state locked down if Sydney is going to get out of control.

*Newcastle meaning Greater Newcastle which includes Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and Port Stephens.

VIC Presser: Foley the Health Minister

St Kilda Region testing blitz including extra testing facility now set up. They want everyone in this region to get tested (ie not just the symptomatic)

As per yesterday multiple cases with the only common factor being a geographic link to the area.

One of the positive St Kilda cases is a sex worker. However their primary close contacts have so far not tested positive. A particular call is for anyone who has been with a sex worker in the St Kilda Region to get tested for Covid 19.
 
I would have snapped too if someone kept talking over me. Interesting that in Melbourne the News stable are slamming Dan with ‘curfews don’t work’ stories and in NSW they keep up the ‘why don’t you have curfews’. I’m not picking sides in this fight, just noting that these guys are more concerned with inventing a story than whether or not certain restrictions apply.

Reporter got quite a bit of time and keeps just trying to bluster through with the exact same point, i'm all for politicians getting a hard time but he is being pretty disrespectful to his peers who are trying to ask other questions

In recent times there are now 14 cases in the StKilda/Glen Eira Region. They are of diverse backgrounds and occupations. No connections, other than the geographic link. This includes from the sex worker.

So search is on for the transmission chain/s in the StKilda/Glen Eira Region (ie rollout of asking all to get tested in the region and not just the symptomatic).

NZ outbreak came from NSW (I assume through HQ)

That was the point Gladys made, there are other journalists here and it’s not your press conference. The same two guys ask the same questions every day and get the same answers every day, as you say I’d like to hear the other reporters who are asking questions where we actually learn something new.
 
Poor scheduling today- NSW, VIC, QLD and NZ all having their press conferences at the same time.

ABC News -There's been 22 new local cases reported in the ACT​

The ACT has recorded 22 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of active cases in Canberra to 67.​

All 22 of the new cases can be linked to existing cases and 63 of the 67 cases are now linked.​

Overnight three more Canberra schools were added to the list of close contact exposure sites, with a total of five school communities now in quarantine.​

Also overnight, ACT Labor Senator Katy Gallagher confirmed her daughter, Evie, was one of the 17 COVID-19 cases announced yesterday.​
​
The ACT is currently in lockdown and authorities are dealing with unprecedented demand for testing.​
​
More than 8,000 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours.​

Nice to take a break from hearing, "James..." all the time.

I didnt appreciate todays reporter trying to paint Chant into a corner for political points and causing issues behind closed doors (where Im sure there already are differences but people trying to remain professional).

I dont know how Gladys just doesnt snap one day and say we're in this situation because the population *#)($ed it up the first two weeks of this outbreak. I know I spend more time yelling at the reporters on my screen than the pollies.

Heard a sensible-sounding epidemiologist on ABC radio last night saying natural Delta R is between 5 and 6. So restrictions are flattening curve markedly. (Allowing us some time to get the vaccinations up without a public health disaster)

Yet to be seen whether Victoria can get their R consistently below 1 or if they will follow the NSW Delta experience
