Well that’s old news - they announced ages ago they were getting 500,000 doses of Pfizer from Covax and immediately gave millions of AZ to Fiji and Indonesia.

Read the details. I don’t really think it’s a great demonstration of what I thought were Australian values, but I guess they have well and truly fallen by the wayside recently anyway so who cares right.

Still not seeing anything new. Covax was always intended to be for poorer nations to access vaccines and Australia has contributed millions of dollars - I remember $50 million being stated originally although the article says $130 million. So we are handing over millions of dollars to Covax to help fund vaccines for poorer nations plus we are donating millions of AZ to Pacific rim nations.

I was surprised when Hunt announced we were getting 500,000 Pfizer from Covax as it seemed odd. However as long as we are giving substantial amounts to fund the facility for poorer nations and supplying millions of doses to neighbours I think we are doing the right thing. Covax has been supplying African countries (the region I tend to follow)

I don’t really see it the same way as you , at all but that’s all good, everyone has different perspectives 😊.
At least we will get done faster and other countries can just wait a little longer.

Not sure NSW Health necessarily agree fully.

The first case was known on 16/6 and the West Hoxton party was 2 or 3 days later. Its been acknowledged that was the superspreader event most misunderstood.
Gladys told NSW to continue holding all events (18 June) as the 'outbreak is under control'.

Because they lied.

No. Misleading information given by Brad Hazzard (just like about the Limo driver not following requirements - all untrue, as Police report complimented him for going beyond the requirements., or the twin removalists being told they were CV+ the day before they left Sydney etc etc).

30 adults and over a dozen children. You cannot vaccinate children, so Brad mentioned number of adults not total number of people attending. Otherwise would not be such a good sound bite - "24 out of 36 unvaccinated people have tested positive and none of the 6 fully vaccinated."

When was the last time Brad Hazzard mentioned it at the briefing? No, not June 29th, that is when it appeared last (that I found) in the daily reporting on the website.

NSW Health June 29th
More than 40 people attended this birthday party. It was initially believed about 30 people had attended, but this number increased following further investigations and contact tracing.

Further investigations by the media that is, which may account for the addition of & 'contact tracing'. The 30 figure remained in use for some media until the story dropped out of the news.

Also of note in the same NSW Health report - spreading from Bondi Westfield (location named a few days later though). Subsequently he was named (quietly) as believed to be the first to carry CV into Fairfield.

The source of two cases reported in today’s numbers are under investigation. The first case is a man in his 40s from Sydney’s south west, who has been working in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The second case works as a member of the Out of School Hours service at Bellevue Hill Public School.

And wasn't it a person who illegally attended this gathering who took Delta back to Melbourne with him.
No. The father did everything required and acted in full accordance with the law despite how portrayed in NSW 11am briefings. Even praised by Victoria for 'doing the right thing without delay'.

Note though that he (reportedly) was still to be contacted by NSW's Contact tracing team.

He was one of about 30 guests at a birthday party at his daughter's house in West Hoxton on Saturday night. (19 June)

"My understanding at this point is that he's not yet being contacted by NSW's contact tracing team," Victoria's Covid commander Jeroen Weimar told reporters on Thursday afternoon. (June 24th)

"The reasons for that we'll work through in the coming hours."

More than 12 people at the event have now become infected, including the Melbourne father, who caught a return flight from Sydney Airport on Sunday afternoon.

Late on Tuesday evening, he started to feel unwell and was tested on Wednesday.

Health Minister Martin Foley said there was no suggestion the man breached any permit regulations, as West Hoxton was classed a green zone over the weekend.

It is unclear whether he is partially or fully vaccinated, though officials praised the man for immediately coming forward for testing.

Why is it that it is widely reported that you can go asymptomatic the entire time in some cases (fully vaccinated for example), or for a few days - so why is this still the messaging:

People who were in Westfield Bondi Junction on these days and do not have symptoms and have not been at the specific exposure venues at the listed times do not need to isolate.

That was the messaging back in late June & is still the messaging today.

Some of what you say is true, but my reading of the official position of NSW authorities is that the Bondi-based cluster/cases were under control and ultimately stamped out in the first few days of CBD/Sydney lockdown.

It was the seeding of the West Hoxton party that was ultimately considered the point of no return - seeded on 19/6, detected on 23/6 and 26/6 realised they had lost control. Don't forget on 25/6 there was a lockdown for one day of around Bondi, not anywhere near West Hoxton I believe.

If you look at other Australian jurisdictions some have waited some days to place a lockdown, so what NSW did at the time was not particularly exceptional, but now acknowledged as late.

You might appreciate the transcript of the Parliamentary committee attended by the NSW CHO and NSW Health Minister.

Just announced in NSW that they hope to be able to use the extra 500k vaccines in two and a half weeks, that’s on top of current vaccination rate. That’s a serious boost to vaccination rate!

To be slightly critical a bit slow - but good if it makes the (unknown) expiry date.

I was hoping for some 24/7 walk-in hubs.........now aware of some walk-in clinics. But for this if some are not going to pharmacies for example the LGAs of concern needs a walk-in hub - may be three so its convenient for the I think 12 LGAs of concern.

yes we will have to agree to disagree. My view is they took 500,000 from developing countries, but handed out millions to developing countries, so developing countries had a net gain. So unless you view AZ as inferior to Pfizer it’s yet another media beat up :)

They are doing the extra 500,000 million in addition to their normal vaccinations, so I was rather blown away by how fast they are doing it! The lady doing the explanation was clearly very excited by what they are achieving

On the Poland doses, they were always going to sell - not give away free. So if Australia didn't get it probably Spain and Portugal would have got more from Poland than they did. Australia got it at cost, so its not a case of outbidding a developing country.

As for “dipping in”, Covax chose to sell. The vaccines weren’t stolen. Covax could have said “no“. They obviously took Australia’s double the number of donations into account.

Its good that the NSW Health rep is excited. But I guess I had higher hopes of the ability to boost/surge vaccinations. A few days ago I thought 2 million in 2 weeks was possible if there were more 24/7 walk-in capacity/locations - equating to 100 per minute 24/7 for 2 weeks.

Without assured continued supply scaling up and down does have its challenges. They are doing their best.

There will also be challenges getting people to turn up with the qualifying comments from State leaders re the Doherty report. We are certainly in a race.

Yup I’m sure Africa will be fine with that but who cares really.
