Re: Family Of 5 Ejected Of Etihad Airway After Etihad Made An Error On The Their Seat

I myself have gotten onto the wrong flights on both QF and DJ. The boarding pass was clearly not accepted at the gate but as they were already running late they let me through and the only was they found out was that someone was sitting in "my" seat. In all cases i chose the wrong gate and tried to mistakenly get on the earlier flight...

I was thinking the same thing that in this day and age all i had to do was take a spare seat and no-one would've known a thing really...

...Except wouldn't you lose the FF points/SCs as a no show on the flight you were supposed to take and not get them on the flight you did because there was no proof you were on it ?

It dosnt seem that many years ago that a FA - presumably the CSM - would walk down the aisle before push back with a mechanical "clicker" type counter to ensure the number of bodies matched the manifest from the gate.

The clicker and counting heads is still alive and well out of some locations in Southern Asia

And even in Australia. I've been counted in the past year at least once....

Except that the flight I was quoting was an International Flight where they are really quite stringent.

sounds to me that there are probably 2 sides to the story and would consider that 1st

Dave

Calling a customer "a dog" (if true) could never be justified by the airline's perspective of the incident, whatever it is.

Yeah, fair comment... And the fact i wouldn't have had any luggage as that would've been offloaded too!

Qantaslink often use a clicker..its common between TSV-CNS, but that may be due in part to its being a milk run down the east coast with folks gettting on and off, somewhat reminscent of a hail n ride.

It's also fairly regular for the FA's to count on Qantas flights out of TSV as well, although they tend not to use a clicker. I've often heard them talking about it just before they close the doors.

You get hear a lot of interesting things sitting in 1a/1d, some of which I'm sure you're not supposed to hear as I've often had a bit of a giggle with an FA when they realise I've overheard something impolitical.

Re: Family Of 5 Ejected Of Etihad Airway After Etihad Made An Error On The Their Seat

I have noticed the clicker in use on Dash 8 flights. It must be a difficult device to use as I have seen them walk up and down the aisle with the clicker a few times when the clicker would give the wrong head count....

Hysterics and sulking and demanding to see the Captain = Get kicked off every day of the week. If I was on that flight I'd like to see you get kicked off too, but then again I'd like to remove just about all the passengers from my flights, so I'm not impartial in these things. Kicking annoying people off flights would only increase my love for an airline.

I believe the cabin crew are required to perform a count on flights where there is no direct aerobridge boarding departing from major airports. So its common on Dash-8 services from places like Canberra. This is because the airline is responsible for ensuring that all passengers who entered the security zone to cross the tarmac to board the aircraft have in fact boarded the aircraft and have not either got lost on the way to the aircraft or deliberately gone walkabout where they are not supposed to be.

I can only imaging what would happen at an airport like CBR is the number of boarding passes scanned at the gate was more than the number of passengers on board the aircraft. The discrepancy would need to be sorted or I expect the airport would end up in lock-down needing a full security sweep of the air-side facilities. Now that would not be good.

No need for such passenger number correlation when using an aerobridge as there is nowhere for passengers to go astray.

That makes perfect sense:!:

...unless the check-in system has broken down, and a manual check-in/boarding has occured (been there, done that on an A330!)

You would think so, wouldnt you ? A couple of months ago I was sitting in 1C on a 73H and could overhear a conversation in the galley with boarding pretty much completed. Somehow they had "lost" an unaccompanied minor - according to the gate the BP had been scanned but they werent on board. After about five minutes a GA brought the kid down the aerobridge, goodness knows where they found them.

I'm sure the cabin staff pay particular attention to familiarising themselves with the unaccompanied minors in their charge. I'm not so sure whether they would miss an adult.

Besides that door lead leads to some stairs and down onto the hardstand. ;) DJ use it sometimes for loading via the rear door.

Passengers may not go astray but occasionally this count could also go wrong. I have observed the gate staff a number of times unsure of the exact number of passengers who have boarded the aircraft and then checking if anyone is sitting in the seats of passengers supposedly missing. More often than not the passengers are on board but the boarding passes have been scanned.
