Another week, another exciting Woolies offer :


With offers like these is it any wonder why EDR takes a back seat for most Aussie shoppers? (In case anyone is wondering that's about a 6% return on investment).

I can't say I have ever viewed buying groceries as an investment!

They're in my blue-chip portfolio: high yield but has the volatility to make it infeasible for my super. Thank goodness I've diversified to Coles/Flybuys and 7-Eleven. Best not to keep all points in one basket

Well I spent $193 today for week 2 (required spend $185) and the 7,500 EDR points were home before I was. I bought nothing I wouldn’t have anyway, just brought forward purchases of some long life items. This approach costs bugger all, and I reckon it‘s points for no real additional cost.

That works out to about a 10% ROI @ Woolies, not bad. I just finished week 3 of my 1-2-3 challenge (1000 bonus points for spending $30+ in week 1, 2000 bonus points for spending $40+ in week two and 3000 bonus points for spending $50+ in week 3. Not a bad offer, although like you I had to pull forward some stuff I was going to by later at Costco which I suppose makes sense given the current situation in Greater Sydney. Like you those 3000 points landed in my EDR account before I got home and this morning I saw that the auto-transfer moved them over to QF as desired. Certainly, this promotion I've received is one of the more lucrative ones given the relatively high number of points in relation to required spend.

I'm presently now on a Coles bender: spend $90 per week in store each week for 4 weeks to get 10000 Flybuys points, which isn't the greatest offer. However, in week 1 I got a 4800 bonus point offer for spending $120 in-store/online which was easy to do given I had to get my groceries delivered this week due to you know what in Sydney. Hopefully, Coles remains generous in the forthcoming weeks so I can stack those bonus offers up like a can of pringles.

Apart from 1,000 points for a $10+ spend on vitamins, etc, thanks to BUPA, the best that Woolies has come up with recently was 1,000 points for a $150 weekly spend.

On the other hand, I just completed a 4,400 points for $110+ spend with Coles, and now have an offer of $15 off a $120 online spend, and if this includes $50+ of liquor, there is a further 3,000 points on offer.

Last week I had a spend $50 or more in store and get 3000 bonus points. Not a bad ROI, in my books. However, again the number of great offers I receive from Woolies is limited to once a quarter at best. I guess it's just a matter of pitting the two supermarkets against each other to see which one will show me the points for a given week:

Yes, that's correct, but I've discovered that my assigned Coles delivery store doesn't do alcohol deliveries.

So to get the bonus, I have to do an online order/pickup at a store several K's further away.

But at least that's burning my petrol so I'll have to fill up with BP sooner!

From Woolies, absolutely this is one of the better offers they have. Compared to Coles, I respectfully disagree. There are a number of product offers that can easily net you 30% or even 40% back such as last week's targetted offer of 200 bonus points when purchasing a 4 pack of Coles bagels for $2.50.

In any event, I've updated the Supermarket reward spreadsheet for those curious of determining if their deal is any good.
