Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Across the road from my son and daughterinlaw a big house is being built ( we are in Wollongong).
Today the kitchen company arrived from Sydney for installation. A band of 5 workers arrived 3 of them in one vehicle and two others in a big truck. I thought we weren't allowed to share rides?
I thought the car pool restriction was specifically related to exercise.

Maybe a call next time to NSW Police - probably kitchen done though

I think you are correct, this is from the nsw health website

  • People must stay in their Local Government Area or within 10kms of home for exercise and outdoor recreation, with no carpooling between non-household members

Pretty sure that having your car detailed and the pool installed are not essential right now.
I don't think the economic activity from these businesses would make any difference but include a few hundred job sites like some of the infrastructure ones in NSW may make a difference.

We now have a plane load of Pax in isolation because they were on a LST-MEL flight with someone who later tested positive in the UK. They were fully vaccinated but toured Tasmania before leaving, resulting in various local businesses closing.
How can anyone operate a business in an environment where such a long shot can shut your doors or put you into isolation? There's no discussion about where on the plane they sat, or who they came close to. Sixty one fellow passengers into isolation, even though I've yet to read a credible scenario as to how they picked up Covid in Tasmania. They were health workers and if they picked up the virus here, there are a lot more serious questions that need to be addressed!

Given that the last positive case in Tasmania was early December with no community transmission since May 2020 it is unlikely they were positive in Tasmania.
I certainly haven't been contacted by the LGH or Dept of Health as a contact.

It's really hard to see the mindset shift from out and out panic over 1 case in a vaccinated person, to in 12 months time, it's only COVID, stay home for a few days before coming back to work.

And a Tassie update from ABC News:

New exposure sites listed in Tasmania

Public Health authorities in Tasmanian have released a list of exposure sites a Launceston General Hospital health worker — who tested positive to COVID-19, two days after leaving Australia — visited between June 23 and July 2.
The list has been published on the government's coronavirus website this morning and includes the Launceston airport, a bottleshop, a Coles supermarket, and Salvos Stores in Invermay.
While most sites are in Launceston, others are in the south of the state at New Norfolk, Maydena, Cradoc, as well as the Pedder Wilderness Lodge.
Anyone who has visited the exposure sites during the times and dates listed online is considered a casual contact and should isolate immediately and call the Public Health Hotline to arrange a COVID test as a precaution.

You can find the full list here.

Well, I dunno about anyone else, but I'm pretty relaxed. See below.

It's just our CHO Veitch - it's so long since there was a case here, he must be absolutely itching to lock something down, declare a list of hot spots etc. ANYTHING!! 🙀In fact he'd probably declare a lock down just to give us practice.

Personally, I encourage people to get the vaccine recommended by their doctor.

You may have a GP or other doctor but many people do not. If you get the recommended vaccine for your cohort you dont need to consult a GP.

NSW Government blocks move of Origin 3 to Newcastle due to current health imperatives.

Origin 3 will now be on the Gold Coast
Technically they didn't block it, they just didn't allow crowds.

It is a blow to the city, and probably indicates they expect the outbreak to spread outside of Greater Sydney.

Which will in turn spook the other states. It sounds inevitable Victoria will close the border completely tomorrow - with Queensland not far behind them.

At least northern NSW can get to the game - they should reserve 50% of the seats for them.

Though last night Souths played the Cowboys there with a crowd.
The game should have gone ahead and restrict it to residents of Newcastle.

Unless they’re going to include Newcastle in the lockdown tomorrow… 😱

76% of all Australians aged 15 and above have a regular GP.
From the ABS in the 2019-2020 financial year over 70% of adults in every age group had an appointment with their GP.

The best place for people to get advice about vaccines is their GP.

What! 🙀 First, everyone in Australia has access to a doctor if they want one. Second, just because you are in a certain 'cohort' doesn't mean that a particular vaccine is ok for you. That's saying "OK listen up over 60s. I don't care what you situation is, what your own medical conditions are, what your own doctor is telling you. YOU WILL HAVE AZ VACCINE!!".

Really.

For goodness sake, how on earth could anyone argue against the advice " ask your doctor" ... for health related advice. But it seems they do.

Really? I’d would have been surprised if 76% of Australians saw a GP, let alone a dedicated one. There you go!

I guess I’m in the 24%… (nothing against GPs I just move a lot and don’t need to do to a doctor often)

Yep, I reckon I’ve been to a GP about 3 times in 20 years and not the same one.

I have to agree. Possibly a certain level of drama is required to maintain SOE powers, but the reality is that individuals and businesses pick up the tab.
