Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

With the recent NSW Health updates to exposure sites the virus is popping up further and further away from Bondi.

ie Bossley Park, Edmonson Park, Wahroonga and Rydalmere,
Which presents an interesting position for the NSW CHO and NSW Premier. Do they extend lockdown due to the number of positives that are contagious while in the community?

He’s right, but also premature, we’re nowhere near vaccinated enough. It’s good to be talking about this now though as it will take till November to get the message across.

Yes. But we have to start sending out different messaging and do it now to get people to at least start thinking things can't stay like this forever.

Getting further off-topic, but we will have a Census in August - but that will probably take "forever" to get basic statistics out like population (meaning currently in Australia eg citizens, permanent residents, other visa holders). Apart from age, the plan is everyone in Australia regardless of immigration status can get the vaccine

The census should be online (and hopefully working this time) so really shouldn't take that long to compile results (of course this is government so will take ages). I do notice they are advertising it heavily on radio stressing need to give serious answers stating how the data is used.

But they don't really need census data to identify the number of citizens, PRs and visa holders as that is information already held in other government systems. And even in AFF we have had reports of a international student (so no citizen, non PR) without a Medicare card being able to get vaccinated.

In fact most of the data gathered is available elsewhere, I mean they ask about PT usage when the states could provide that info from Opal/Myki card usage and to be honest data over a year of real use is more valid than asking people how they got to work on a single day.

This isn't new, there were cases outside of Bondi from this cluster well before lockdown began, infact the largest spreader event the West Hoxton Birthday Party was in South West Sydney (as are Bosley Park and Edmonson Park).

I wonder if Avalon will still go ahead

Who knows. I think with the GP the sticking point was the 14 day quarantine period that the F1 crews did not want to abide with as it does not work with their schedule.

Third Summit Care Healthworker has now tested positive.

ABC News

Third worker at Sydney aged care home tests positive

A third staff member has tested positive to COVID-19 at the SummitCare aged care home at Baulkham Hills in Sydney’s north west.
Five residents at the centre also previously tested positive to the virus.
The operator has confirmed the new infection and it says the affected staff member had been in isolation, as they worked closely with the other two infected staff.
Two thirds of staff at the centre have not been vaccinated, but the home says 96 per cent of residents are vaccinated.

The current “outbreak” in NSW is up to about 330 cases (think). This year, we’ve had outbreaks in basically every major capital city including larger ones in Melbourne and Sydney in January. We’ve also had countless “positive” cases coming in from overseas.

Despite this, hardly anyone has been sick and absolutely nobody has died. While the “outbreak” in Melbourne led to a higher death rate, I believe 75% of those who passed were in end of life care and did not receive proper treatment.

We now also have a huge proportion of the elderly community fully vaccinated, and 30% of the eligible population has received one dose (so dramatically reduces the chance of serious illness).

It’s most certainly time to start having the discussion.

'They' are very slowly 'starting' to raise what we are thinking. Silly high percentage will be provided by Burnet Institute and PM though.

Big thing will be how UK go with all restrictions ending, though 19th July, towards end of the year, over winter, into Spring. If they are successful into early 2022, we can shred the stupid 4 stage plan.

Though in the Sydney outbreak there are now 6 in ICU and 2 on ventilators.1 or 2 may be from HQ as I have no info on the breakdown but it means the rate of serious covid is ~1.5-2% in this outbreak.

And it won't surprise me if it never comes back.
Would that be a cause for celebration or regret?

Adelaide Council has permanently cancelled NYE Fireworks - reason? Covid. Covid excuse is going to be used from now on. The Council says instead it will host parties and long tables in the city on NYE. Somehow that's less a Covid risk. 🤷‍♀️

Personally a regret. While it's been a few years since I've been, I don't like the idea of not having the event in Australia going forward.

Fortress Australia is costing this country global events and organisations will move on and not look back IMO
