NSW hospitals from NSW press conference, reported by news.com.au

Multiple NSW hospital wards have been sent into lockdown after a student nurse tested positive to Covid-19.

The 24-year-old is believed to have worked at the rehabilitation wards at Fairfield Hospital and the and a cardiology and a general abdominal surgery ward at the Royal North Shore Hospitals during her infectious period.

Those wards have now been locked down as authorities rush to conduct contact tracing.

It is not clear if the student nurse was vaccinated.

"We know that the student nurse worked whilst infectious on a number of days, and obviously immediately our health team swung into action," chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant.

"So the wards that that staff member worked at have been locked down, so that’s not taking any additional patients.

"We have also followed up any patients that have been discharged from those wards. We are also arranging testing for any staff that may have come in contact.

"I’m pleased to say that to date the tests have been negative, but it’s much too early to tell, whether we will have any transmission and we have taken a very broad, infectious period because of our concern about the vulnerability of health care settings."
One of them is the hospital I work at...the sh.t has hit the fan so to speak! Fortunately I wasn't working the days she worked and on the same wards....a number of staff have been sent home for 14 days!!

But it was obvious what Peta Credlin was there for. IMHO, she was mainly focused on looking for a smoking gun, and really went down a rabbit hole. Looking back (with the benefit of hindsight), 12 months later, the decision to use private security - which was so much of a focus - meant that other problems were largely glossed over. It's quite evident that problems ran deep in DHHS - ranging from infection control procedures, contractor supervision, staff culture, speed of acting on data, contract tracing capabilities, poor IT systems, so much was wrong. Yet most of the journalists (including Peta) seemed to gloss over them in their quest to determine, essentially, whether the Premier made the decision around employing private security. If any other of a range of processes had been in place, it would not have mattered that private security was used.
The whole private security thing was ludicrous, given that almost every other state was doing the same thing. The trash current affairs shows had no problems getting footage of security guards sleeping in the corridors with masks around their chins in Sydney.

And it was therefore also ludicrous that no one from Vic gov could remember or own up to involvement in it...it really didn't matter! As you say, everything else that went along with it was what mattered.

Press conf. on intl arrivals coming up - perhaps a response to Qld's statements:

If you had watched the Peta Credlin show when she concentrated on the Private security firm that caused most of the problems -it was one of 3 I believe -you wouldn't think that. That firm was not on a preferred list of tenderers. It was however run by a fellow who proclaimed he was indigenous. The owner of another firm used by that company in a sub tender presented a dossier of the problems he had and the mistakes that original firm made.He presented a 504 page dossier to the Inquiry. It was never discussed by that body.Hence her concentrating on who made that decision.
And remember Peta Credlin does not claim she is a journalist but she did train in the law.

Karen Andrews just said some of the permanent residents are also dual citizens. Um, no. That can't be...at least not holding Australian citizenship anyway....and not sure why it would be relevant.

Dual citizenship is allowed for Australian citizens. Or do I misunderstand you?

Yes you do. She said some of the PERMANENT RESIDENTS are dual citizens. Australian citizens cannot hold a PR visa. Whatever the point she was trying to make it was irrelevant anyway as both are permitted to enter. Just struck me as odd that the Home Affairs minister doesn't have a basic understanding of that.

I'd never watch Skynews after dark. Is she that one that has to read out the on air apologies for making stuff up? 😄

I'd hazard a guess she's trying to say many entering on visas are immediate family members of a dual citizen - which I long suspected anyway.

Boy she came out swinging though! Would love to see her an AP in the same room.

Tas, with no cases (so far) to make the Check In Tas app mandatory for retailers, including supermarkets, shopping centres and big box outlets next week. The AFL match between Carlton and Fremantle will now not be played in Tasmania.

And ... a new outside marquee to be installed at Hobart airport to provide some shelter from the Tasmanian winter for those queuing outside for the arrivals health check process. Last week, about 300 pax were on the tarmac, at night, in the cold, waiting for the border checks inside, where you stand shoulder-to-shoulder with your fellow passengers while being interviewed.

No more or less than any other news outlet. If you watch a diversity of news, you'll get a better feel for whats going on, from all 'sides', then get to conclude for yourself. Listen to an echo chamber for what you like and, well ...

You're thinking of Louise Milligan.

The problem with Sky News after dark is they stop doing news. Was watching the other night, they showed the first bit of the PM then said "ah, that's enough, if you want to watch the rest go to our website". Did the same for Mark McGowan announcing lockdown.

Some of their lefties are quite left - Nicholas Reece was sprouting that the QLD and NT lockdowns were caused by the limo driver - which at the all of those cases were linked to QLD sources. WA was caused by NSW, no question, and now there are QLD cases linked to NSW, but not at the time he said it.

AP now can't go to the Olympics without being a hypocrite about business travellers.

This comes after muscling into the queue for Pfizer due to the urgency of her attendance at Tokyo, when she should have led the way with AZ.

Well, at the time, where else they going to have caught it from?

NSW's refusal to stomp on this at the start with a LOCKDOWN has spread it all over the f-ing country. All due to some stupid political ideology.

There have been 3 separate leaks from Queensland Hotel Quarantine... Facts help.

I dont think she cares based on past behaviour. I still think the Olympics should be cancelled, Japan are in a 5th wave. Im sure we will see a tally for Olympic acquired Covid that outshines the medal tally (especially if they are honest and count workers, coachers, officials and not just the athletes)

OK you're obviously misinformed.

Of the QLD cases:

  • One cluster (aka "the DFO cluster") caused by an international flight attendant who caught it in Hotel Qurantine. Nothing to do with NSW.
  • One cluster (aka "the mining cluster") caused by QLD putting a Victorian domestic traveller on the same floor as international hotel quarantine, who took it to the NT, spread it to the mines, and has now gone to other parts of the country (NT, SA, NSW and back to QLD). Nothing to do with NSW.
  • One cluster (the hospital receptionist) likely caught it from that hospital, it has been linked to a QLD returned traveller. Nothing to do with NSW.
Those were the only cases at the time of the lockdown, and when Nicholas Reece made that misinformed comment.

Today, they now have local cases connected to the limo cluster, spread by the Virgin Flight attendant.

Please check your facts before throwing stones. QLD has spread their cluster further than NSW has (not that it is a competition).

Totally agree with you - I watch and listen to the ABC, and read the Guardian, the Australian and the Fin Review and that certainly provides both left and right of arc! Just can't bring myself to read the Daily Telegraph or the Courier Mail though 😂.

The current Queensland cases did not originate from NSW, they originated from 2 Qld HQ breaches and a Qld Hospital. Queensland HQ is the also the source of the NT community cases, which have since spread to SA with returning miners.

Only the WA and Vic cases were seeded from NSW.

And of course the onward transmission form the Vic man could have been avoided had his daughter been honest about their being interstate guest at the birthday party (and more than 30 people) when contract tracers first called. When people lie to contact tracers it helps no one.

Just to seek clarification on the hospital receptionist......

How did the receptionist get it from hospital (I'm guessing: her work)?
