Book a flight and Extend Current status to 2022

I don't know why but I'm nervous about booking a Classic Reward flight to take advantage of this. Yes, I know they're eligible but for some reason a paid flight seems safer.
I did it with a classic reward flight. My end date was 31 March and I booked and took a classic reward CBR-OOL return in mid march and no drama, WP retained on 1 April and even new physical card was issued. So it definitely works.

However, if you have only flown classic rewards in the relevant time period for your 1 qualifying flight, there will be no SC for you to benefit from the rollover provisions for SC (unless maybe there's something in points club - I don't qualify for that so have not really kept up with benefits). I didn't really care about that, just happy to have retained WP.

Yes I received a QF Gold Status card as completed the Fast Track.
I was too under impression that physical cards weren't to be sent anymore.
Received the Q-Bag tag also.
Maybe as a 1st timer QF Status member they wanted to impress me & give the Q-Tag as it's more permanent item.
I also received a new physical WP card a few weeks after my 31 March expiry date - in my case I suspect it was because I have a few $ sitting in my Qantas Cash account and so they need to keep giving me a physical card so I can use it to access my cashola. The card usually has an expiry date a few months longer than your membership expiry so it does continue to be able to be used to spend money for that few months, but eventually you need a new one with a new expiry date.

Edited to add: so yes exactly as @oz_mark said above - should have read further before posting!

Well, I took my flight(s) MEL - HBA and return as discussed here a few weeks ago. One booked with old gift vouchers and one classic flight reward.
Morning of the 1 June, I had 100 credits and renewed platinum (congratulations on maintaining P bla blah on the banner). The 100 must be the roll over due the few flights I took in June last year.
This is still holding as of today so all looks good.

Probably wrong thread, but a couple of sneaky photos from the above trip.
Always enjoy a beer in the lounge shower after a long day or drive to airport. :)

Floating accom in Hobart.

Move if wrong thread, but anyone else with a 31 May anniversary date not yet received the ‘early June’ rollover status credits?

My anniversary date was end of April 2021. I had booked and paid in March for a flight Syd > Mel> Sydney for June 30th. Syd > Mel was on the 6.30 am flight. This was booked through the Amex Reserve flight credit. My status was extended in early May.

QF cancelled this 6.30 pm flight and put me on the 8 am flight (I was not notified and only knew it when I check my bookings). This later flight would mean me missing my appointment in Melbourne and plus the fact that we are not allowed to leave the Greater Sydney area mean that I have to cancel the flight. again, the appointment was made in March and was allocated an appointment time for June. There's a long waiting list of 3 month+ before I can get another appointment.

I cancelled this afternoon through Amex Travel and as per QF Status Support conditions:

If the booking is cancelled, will my status still be extended?
We will extend your status if you’ve made a booking in line with the requirements and Qantas cancels the flight you’ve booked.

Am I safe that QF will not revoke my status extension?

According to terms, you will be extended only if Qantas cancels the flight. Not if you cancel. You might have had a case if you told QF the flight change was not acceptable rather than just cancel (border closures notwithstanding). Let us know the outcome. I think you’re the first in this situation.

I had kind of a similar issue. I booked a flight as per the conditions (I thought), with YE being April 30 and flight taken in early April. To my concern my membership dropped a level. Then I realised - I had used an old gift voucher for part of the booking so did not qualify. 😱. I sent Qantas an email explaining my good intent and was then called by them about a fortnight later. They could see exactly what had happened and then gave me the offer that if I booked a flight by end of June to be flown by end of 2021 my status would be renewed. Did exactly that and within the week had flown it and within a couple of days the status was updated along with the rollover of status credits as per the original offer.

But the terms and conditions do not state that you actually have to take the flight; only that you have to book it:
  • have a status end date between 31 March 2021 and 31 December 2021 (inclusive); and
  • have made a new booking,; to travel on at least one eligible flight. The booking creation date must be between 23 November 2020 and before the member’s current status end date of between 31 March and 31 December 2021. The flight must be booked to travel before 31 December 2021.
IMHO, once your status has been extended you can cancel the flight without loosing the extended status.

Note that I am not recommending anyone goes out of their way to test this!

Furthermore, in the OP's case, QF did cancel the flight. The fact that they offered an alternative flight (which did not suit) is irrelevant; the flight the OP booked was still cancelled.

This will be an interesting case to watch. What you say is quite true, but the rules are never 100% clear, are they? I hope it works out for Ric.

You cancel = not OK

However:

QF cancels = OK
You cancel = not OK

See if Jen can sort it out. 😉
The T&Cs do include the following statement:

If the booking is cancelled, will my status still be extended?
We will extend your status if you’ve made a booking in line with the requirements and Qantas cancels the flight you’ve booked.

If you cancel the booking, you will need to make a new eligible booking before your status end date to qualify for the 12 month extension.

However, the T&Cs are silent on what happens if your status has already been extended before you cancel the booking. I agree with @oz_mark that it is unlikely that QF would remove the status extension.

In the OP's situation, Qantas cancelled the flight he booked and therefore, assuming the alternative flight has a different flight number (rather than just a minor schedule change of the same flight & number), the status extention still applies. In any case, the OP's status has already been extended and, again, I don't see QF reversing the extention.

And T+C will never cover every possibility. See what QF decide?

Thanks all.

Yes QF did cancel the flight. QF405 was the 6.30 am flight in question and it is not showing in their system anymore for June 30th.
They put me on QF419 ETD 8.00 am.

If they reverse my extension, I think I do have a leg to stand on! If they reverse, I will advise here.
