Am I losing my ever loving mind or is there just a massive slap to everyones face being done over and over and over and over again.

Politician in NSW Gov tests positive, bunch of close contacts including Berejiklian. Along with stories like the Canadian PM who was in their quarantine system for about 12 hours until a negative test.

So Berejiklian has a potential exposure .... isolates ... 36 hours later ... test .... negative .... on you go ...

WHAT

WHAT

I say again

WHAT IS GOING ON.

How are all of these people tested within 2 days and cleared but when someone gets off a flight they have to sit in a hotel for 2 weeks.

does this thing have an incubation or not, because it seems like the hoy-paloy can just ignore it with a negative test while every other poor cough has to sit in quarantine for two weeks waiting for incubation.

It does when it does and doesn’t when it doesn’t. Depends how convenient it is for the overlords 😂

It doesn’t make any sense at all, especially when you’re vaccinated.

Also doesn’t make sense that if you are in Australia and identified as a close contact of a covid positive person (where there is 100% chance you’ve been in close contact with a positive case & you’d think there is a reasonable probability of transmission) the government trusts you to self isolate at home for 14 days, but if you are on a flight you can’t isolate at home even though the probability of being in close contact with someone having covid is much lower - if you look at the U.K. data it’s 1 in 200 travellers coming from amber list countries test positive so you have probably a <0.5% chance of sitting near enough to one of those cases (esp at the moment when all the planes are flying so empty).

I don't think there is common sense or logic to any of this stuff. Politicians love control, and the vast majority of the population have now been frightened into believing anything these people say and just follow blindly. What's more is that there are people who will stick up for rules, even when they are clearly contradictory. It's utterly disgusting and I just hope people can see now this is not about public health anymore.

Mind you, it is even worse in the UK. It's one rule for the elite, one rule for everyone else.

So it looks like WA, QLD and Victoria will be pushing for caps to be significantly reduced. Master FM’s visa application hasn’t been finalised yet, so he still can’t book a flight home. Going to be a bit stressful I think :)

Whereas the prevailing view on AFF is that they should be taking steps to safely significantly increase the caps. It's far more difficult than it should be for Australians to return home. We need to learn to live with this virus.

I don’t mind if they make being fully vaccinated a criteria, except for people in vulnerable/compassionate circumstances. That seems sensible and they way it will be in the future once travel opens up.

Even now, have a smaller cap for the unvaccinated (or those whose vaccination is not readily verifiable) - on specific nominated charter or commercial flights out of various hubs - and current caps apply to those who are verifiably vaccinated using current flight arrangements.

Surely by now there is some data suggesting a lower risk with three layers of protection (#1 vaccinated, #2 someone having a negative test within 72 hrs of the flight, #3 hotel quarantine).

Qld were continuing to claim today that overseas traveller arrivals are on the up and up, repeated at today's presser.
I want to talk (about) border force disputing the Australian Bureau of Statistics figures on passenger arrivals yesterday…they did not dispute the growing trend for an increased number of foreign nationals being permitted to travel.
So I looked at the last (provisional May) ABS stats. Numbers are ,000s.

There is a huge spike in April and May, but could that be due to a travel bubble with NZ opening up on 19 April? Here are the top origins for these foreign ferals in May
  • New Zealand (52,300)
  • UK (2,400)
  • China (1,900)
  • India (1,400)
  • USA (1,100).

Yes, indeed, if you take out the bubble arrivals from New Zealand, the provisional non-bubble total for May is actually about 2,000 less than the average for December-May.

The other claim made yesterday was that the ABS was evilly discontinuing these travel stats. What they are actually saying is
This temporary product was introduced to provide more timely travel data in response to COVID-19. In line with the ABS work program changes announced on 20 April 2021, this product will cease in July 2021. For further information, see "Changes to the ABS statistical work program".

The last release will be on 14/07/2021.

Provisional travel data for total overseas arrivals and total overseas departures will be added to the monthly Overseas Arrivals and Departures publication from the June issue scheduled for release on the 17 August 2021.

In other words ABS temporarily set up a separate series (provisional overseas travel) in addition to the regular overseas travel stats to provide early data. They are discontinuing the separate provisional travel stats, but some of this provisional travel data will be added to the regular stats, which will continue.

Except that some states don't even keep a record of who is vaccinated. I muted most of the Qld press conference this morning to avoid breaking my TV, but I did catch Steven Miles saying something like "we had 1xx arrivals into quarantine yesterday and we don't even know how many are vaccinated". Maybe try asking?

QLD government and CHO only seem to care about arrivals of *certain* nationalities if you didn’t pick up on the Xenophobic / casual racism thrown around by all of them yesterday and today...

Nooooooooo! Just when Seat son is due home next month. Nooooooooo!

Some reckon that the PM may agree to the cap reduction in exchange for some commitments from the states to a vaccination threshold to end lockdowns.

@madrooster your guides have been comprehensive and welcomed. I have a 12 month contract with the State Government of Victoria that requires me to leave Australia for 12 months. I wish to leave Australia with my partner (both Australian Citizens). I have a few questions for you please:
  1. Do we complete one exit pass application where I list her as my dependent?
  2. Do we need to include copies of our passports?
  3. I will attach the following evidence
    • Statutory Declarations for the both of us stating why we wish to travel and that we will be away for more than 11 months, we have been in a relationship for over 15 months, etc. Also have Stat Decs from a Detective, Nurse and Dentist all saying the same.
    • Have contracts showing I'm engaged by State Govt. Victoria
    • Have registered a business overseas in our names
    • Expat Health Insurance for 12 months
    • Travel insurance for 12 months
    • One way tickets from Australia as we are not sure if we will be back in under 12 months
    • Evidence that we both have had all our Covid Jabs
  4. How long would such an application take to process?
  5. Likelihood to be knocked back?
Thanks for all your help.

Mahooligan

You can complete one application for both of you. I would include the passports for completeness.

I think you have a good solid case although one thing I think you could get is is a letter from the Victorian government that confirms their request for you to travel. The process generally takes a week on average.

I know I was thinking of you! Master FM is still waiting for his visa application to be finalised and then is going to try and get a flight - it’s not looking good! Maybe Morrison can beat some sense into the crazy Premiers.

Really.... interesting
Birmingham said work had been done on establishing thresholds for both Alpha and Delta and that as people were vaccinated they needed something to work towards. Feds having something and crazy premiers agreeing to it are two different things of course.

maybe allowing more fully vaccinated people to return home would be another good step…..

As long as QLD gets to pick which nationality and race of people we allow in, that should sit more comfortably with our government 🤪 🤮
