You can now redeem Qantas points at the Qantas Rewards Store to buy lift passes at five snowfields in New Zealand.

Not amazing value but another option if you've got too many points and want to take a holiday in NZ. Early-bird pricing starts from 17,000 Qantas points (which gets you a pass worth $129).

Combine a return Classic Flight Reward to CHC with an Early Bird ski pass (ordered via the Qantas Rewards Store) to receive 15,000 Qantas Points back (for Economy Classic Flight Reward bookings) or 30,000 Qantas Points back (for Business Classic Flight Reward bookings):

What can't you spend Australia's second currency on?

For those who are desperate perhaps it's possible. It seems you can convert QF points at a terrible rate (0.3c per point) into a prepaid mastercard. 13,190 points to $50 which at the current rate is enough to get a one-way MEL-SYD given how cheap VA and ZL flights are.

I don't know what to make of this promo, recent flight sales have shown that NZ flights are a terrible use of points. Combined with the fact that redeeming on lift passes works out at 0.7c per point, you'd want to have a large points balance and again be desperate in order to use them like this.

Not to mention its only for flights to CHC, when 2 out of 3 ski resorts on the lift pass are in Queenstown and only approx. 30 min away from ZQN airport where Mt Hutt is 1.5 hours from CHC. So to get an real value out of this deal you need to get to Queenstown anyway. This would make way more sense if this deal included flights to ZQN.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

There's a good reason why it's only flights to CHC. Bookings into CHC have been trash and current flights are operating very very empty. I've flown between AU and CHC a few times since the grand reopening and my last flight on Thursday had just 27 people from CHC to SYD (on a 737).

They won't bother including flights to ZQN as loads have been better and flights seem to be filling up over the holidays. Even VA who won't operate any other NZ flights will be reintroducing ZQN flights in time for the Sep holidays.

It's hard to say if the inclusion of the 2 Queenstown fields is on purpose. NZSki made the decision to make day passes valid across all three mountains so perhaps this deal was only ever intended for Mt Hutt but it just so happens Queenstown fields are included as well?
