Well @Daver6 when you get more miles on the clock you may find yourself drinking less but trying better drops. I find i am drinking a lot less despite my cardiologist saying red wine and olives are good for heart function.
Later this week we are going to share a Penfolds 707 with a friend as Mrscove and her girlfriend don’t drink alcohol at all.Half a bottle is about all i need with dinner these days especially if we do some bubbles before the meal and an after dinner port.
i realise now I cannot drink all the wine in my cellar so i really need to stop buying.
My search for that finest wine has truly slowed as i know what i like.
My favourites are Mosswood, Cullens Diana, Penfolds 707 and Henschke with an occasional Margaret River red for variety.Those reds are really good based on my taste buds.
Drinking a glass of wine at a restaurant that is licensed tends to give me a shock so I prefer to take my own and pay corkage.
 
Not your traditional Chardonnay. Colour resembles unfiltered apple cider with aromas of dry sherry. Needs to be drank with food but I wasn’t sure what to have it with so went with the winemaker advice and bought a piece of Comte cheese which was indeed a good match.

Sounds like their attempt at a Jura style wine. Naturally, that's where Comte is from and the perfect match. Sounds delicious!

@boomy do you still get the Chardonnay fruit underpinning it or is it pushed to the point of oxidised nuttiness?
 
I keep wanting to be wowed by this wine but it just doesn't happen for me. Don't get me wrong, this is a good wine but I'm not seeing what all the fuss is about. I have one bottle left after this. Do I just hold it for another 5+ years?

I don't see this one getting any better. As you say a good wine so I'd knock it off now.
 
Quiet night in with Ata Rangi 2016 (not pictured) this (Adelina Grenache 2018) and a sous vide pork loin.

Ata Rangi was Ata Rangi.

I'm blown away by the Adelina though. The colour of the wine was the first indication that this is not a usual SA Grenache - this is extremely light bodied, seems to have had just the barest of skin contact. Nose is expressive, but not candied as I usually get from Grenache, more like barnyard floor, turkish delight, slightly stalky/herbaceous. Palate is undoubtedly subtle, red berries, really long and consistent (linear?). Then a growing crescendo of fine tannins and orange citrus kick at the end. Vaguely reminded me of a middle aged nebbiolo, but without any of the tertiary fruit.

Much enjoyed by the wife and I, however, I don't think this is for all palates. She is extremely sensitive to ripe fruit, overbearing tannic structure and oak - so this hit the mark. Those that prefer a more full bodied wine would be well advised to avoid (or drink early in the evening).
