I have requested 3 upgrades from D to A class on tomorrow's QF17 SYD-EZE. At the time of submitting the request at around 11am today, Seatcounter was showing A5, D3. As of right now, Seatcounter is showing A2, D3.

So, as we are requesting 3 upgrades and assuming Seatcounter is correct, have we missed out?

With the load showing F2A2 it would seem unlikely that it would clear, but who knows

I thought upgrade requests had to be submitted at least 24 hours before departure , so I take it that you did do it before 10:50 ?

Yep, at 10.37am precisely...I know because I was sweating the time. The reason for such a last minute request is a long story. I'll try to be brief.

Our DONE4 was ticketed through LAN instead of QF to save fuel fines. However last Thursday LAN cancelled our codeshare flight SYD-EZE and said they would change us to the QF flight number. We said "You bet!" however as at the time of writing, our ticket has still not been reissued by LAN. Apparently they have a backlog of work in their back office.

Anyway, I have been attempting to request the upgrade online since last Thursday but the QF web site advised "Contact your travel adviser" presumably because the ticket had to be reissued. I've made many calls to my TA since then and her after hours team has told me they have made several hours of calls to LAN all with no result. So in final desperation this morning while my TA was on the phone to the LAN call center in Santiago trying to get the ticket issued by 10.50am, I called the QF premium desk and they happily put in the upgrade request even though I was unable to do this via the web site.

The upgrade is not into A class. It will be into P class, which is the awards fare bucket for first Class awards. So presence of A availability does not mean availability of upgrades into First Class.

F2A2 does seem to indicate that there may only be 2 seats available for sale so an upgrade request for 3 would seem to be rather hopeful. Given that the flight should now have departed , I think that the OP should have definite knowledge on success or otherwise of request by now :)

Seatcounter does not show the award fare bucket so which site will show? Am looking at QF 128 on Mar 5th.

Thanks.

Checking what is available for sale will give you an idea on likelihood but not guaranteed

If looking for a business class seat to upgrade to , then J9C9D9I9 would suggest that the loads are light in business class and that some upgrade requests might well be successful whilst J1C0D0I0 would suggest a high load in business

Of course there are other variables in play so the only time you will know for certain is either when the upgrade is confirmed or once it is too late for the upgrade to clear

Dave

Thanks Dave.

Ufortunately, Seatcounter does not show "I" class but J9C9D9 only, si I presume its still relatively light.

BTW, what are Premuim Economy class shown under in QF? "W" & "T"?

Cheers

Unsurprisingly, there was no upgrade.

Interestingly, at least to me, is that the seat availability went from A5 F5 D9 J9 just a few days before the flight to A0 F0 D3 J3 just a few hours before the flight. Now maybe that is typical and there could be many explanations - I haven´t watched a flight loading this closely before (even for previous upgrades) so it is all new to me.

One thing I did notice on board is that there seemed to be a lot of first time J flyers in J class. They were playing with the seats, trying to work out what the PJs were, etc, and generally having a great time. It kind of makes me wonder whether Y might have been oversold and a few people got op-ups to J?

Anyway this isn´t a trip report but I will just note in passing that the service was a little below par. The CSM was lovely and most of the crew were fairly friendly though with that increasingly common QF curtness that just doesn´t quite cut it as excellent service (the attitude seems most common in the male FAs). AVOD failed straight up and several attempts to fix it were unsuccessful so a call to maintenance in Sydney was required in order to do a full reboot. Two hours into the flight it came back up. But what really let the flight down for us was the wait of more than two hours for dinner. Before that we were given one drink and a packet of peanuts. The dinner service itself took a long time and consequently our daughter couldn´t sleep when she needed to.

Still we made it to EZE on time and in a fairly comfortable, if not a truly relaxing/enjoyable, way.

Am looking at a pending upgrade to PE on QF 128 on Mar 13.
Seatcounter showing:

ABCDFIJKLMNOQRSTVWY
69777079090 00 89309 9

Anyone can help to check what's the chances?

thanks,

Ric

I think there's a reasonable chance of the upgrade coming through - but that does depend on your status and how many others have requested it.

T, R and W are the revenue PE classes, and with T at 3, R at 8 and W at 9 Qantas seems to want to sell a lot of PE seats still.

If they were overbooking the cabin, I would suggest T would be 0, and perhaps R 0 or at least lower. So I believe there are still a reasonable number of seats free.

Seat map wise, 10 seats are "blocked" (not really sure why they are marked as blocked rather than unallocated), 3 unallocated and 18 allocated.

Mal,

That's encouraging to know. Many thanks!

Ric

I was in PE on 128 last Sunday and W/R/T0 for the last six weeks; my upgrade to J came through (~4am HKG time Sunday).

T3 is a good omen (as Mal psted).

The other good thing is the J7 / D7 and A6 / F7 - Means people can be rolled forward when they've applied for upgrades, so more room for other upgrades to occur.

Ric - hope it works out in your favour.

Serfty/Mal,

Will report back on the outcome! Here's hoping...!!

Ric

Glad to report that upgrade to PE was confirmed :D when I woke up to check this morning at 7 am MNL time. Was not yet confirmed at 3 am.

However, cannot get seating together with Mrs Ric which may be a good or bad thing....depends who's looking at it!:rolleyes: When selecting seats, only 3 scattered seats were available to choose from.
