Jetstar 787's coming back?

Not working that way now. If I try to book a max bundle, it'll charge an extra $40 each way for those seats, even though the initial screen says that "any seat" is included
Seems they've realised that people are willing to pay more for the J seats!

A shame they implement it fraudulently by initially promising that all seats are available without an extra charge and then adding the charge when you actually try to get seat allocation, towards the end of the booking process.

JQ are putting quite a number of their international 787s onto their domestic ops.
Good for those of you who have time to fly, and need the QF SC, but no J class seats being sold though.
Several flights on days in Jul have the 787s.
No J, I am not taking them.
Not sure if the MEL flights will go from T1 or T4 at Tulla.

There was another thread about paying for seat selection and choosing the J seats (upfront seats or something like that I believe JQ calls them). That's the sum extent of the J class experience however: no lounge, meals, extra luggage etc.

Existing thread here:

J seating isn't being sold as a separate product but is being sold as an economy extra legroom seat.

Flights will operate from the domestic terminals (T4 in MEL, T2 in SYD, T2 in CNS).

I‘m pondering seperate tix ex SYD to CNS on QF metal and then return on JQ to balance pre-departure and onboard comfort ie easy lounge access both ends and probably A330 whY / B787 “PE”.

Any ideas on what to expect catering wise on JQ? It can’t be worse than current QF complimentary offering!

JQ has been back to a buy-on-board menu for about 9 months now, it's even possible to get spirits as well:

If you've got a bundle the inflight meal deal included is typically a muffin/banana bread with a water/tea/coffee. Oddly if you purchase the flight less than 24 hours prior to departure you don't get a meal deal but instead get a $10 voucher to spend on anything on the menu.

I’m often torn between LCCs and “full service“ airlines and their whY offering. Having done many work trips on DJ/VA in the early days, you could at last buy something if you wanted. Meanwhile over on QF (my preferred), you got an ANZAC biscuit and plastic of water - if you were lucky!

At least the QF J lounge offer is generally better.

Unless something has changed very recently, I've always found that JQ DOM includes the voucher when travelling on a bundle despite what it says on their website about an inflight meal deal. In fact, I've never not had a voucher - either $10 (V10A)/$15 (V15A) depending on distance.

I actually prefer the voucher anyway.

It hasn't changed. You still get a $10/$15 voucher with a bundle. It's almost impossible to know that when booking and the staff on board won't always tell you you are entitled to a voucher unless you ask.

Interesting I haven't flown Jetstar for a few months but last time I was just offered a snack and drink, perhaps they just used the voucher amount for this?

Either way, it's good to know and next time I'll make a point of asking for a voucher amount to spend on stuff I'd actually prefer.

I've not had it happen before but it's possible the crew did use your voucher allowance to make up a deal for you. If you want to know for sure, check for the V10A/V15A SSR on your boarding pass. If either are there - you're entitled to a voucher.

It will also show up in MMB a few days before your flight once Jetstar's automation goes through your booking and adds the relevant SSR to your booking under "Meals and snacks".

Not sure if this applies to the route you were talking about but on SYD-OOL-MEl on a max bundle you can select the business class seats free of charge.

The 787s are officially in service domestically - VH-VKI operating JQ432 from MEL to OOL this morning even in spite of Victoria's lockdowns.
Shame JQ432 is such an early flight, Queensland allows unrestricted entry from Victoria if you only remain in transit. If it was a later flight it'd be possible to fly BNE-MEL-OOL and basically get an entire Dreamliner to yourself.

Is the JQ 787 fleet currently MEL based? If so that's very unfortunate timing for their re-entry to domestic service.

When I flew out of Brisbane yesterday there were two Jetstar Japan A320's sitting outside the Qantas hangar. Aside from the rego there probably isn't much to change so I guess they'll be in operation soon.
