The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

It would just be slightly worse than a few weeks of lockdown. After enduring months of lockdown last year, what's a few weeks of home quarantine?
No comparison really on hotel quarantine! You can open windows and get some fresh air, even if you don’t have a garden. I could do hotel quarantine, as I am a fairly inward looking person, but home quarantine would be perfect!

Sounding like Mickleham will get the nod. MEL didn’t want to be any part of it but Dan’s mate wouldn’t be too chuffed at AVV missing out on the gig

Only 500 beds. I would have thought at least the 2000 capacity of Howard Springs would have been much more appropriate. If Vic is to seriously increase the number of returning travellers it takes it'll need at lot more than 500 more beds.

With only 500 beds the bulk of travellers will need to go to hotel quarantine still or even home quarantine.

If the vaccine rollout fails to effectively end the pandemic this doesn't sound like much of a plan B.

I know that correlation is not causation, and they could just as easily have said that 2 men die after drinking water, but this is part of the reason that people 50+ are experiencing vaccine hesitancy.

Sideshow. Victorian government has picked the site but wants Feds to pay and run it.

Well Mr FM and I are sitting here all done and dusted - just waiting for our 15 minutes. A man caused a huge fuss because he didn’t want AZ and was quite nasty to the nurse. She explained there was nothing she could do - he had to get a letter from his GP.

AZ side is definitely not as busy as the Pfizer clinic. Anyway I am really happy to have done it. All 7 in our family vaccinated now. 3 Pfizer and 4 AZ

Had our vaccinations on Monday. We had been relaxed waiting for our GP to have supplies but decided to just go ahead any way.

Went to the Royal Exhibition building in Melbourne. Got off the train at Parliament station. Pleasant walk through the gardens. Straight in. Done. Followed by fifteen minutes contemplating the historic ceiling. Then outside to the coffee/tea van.

It seems even the walk ups had no waiting.

Simple.

So far no side effects.

We had the AS vaccine but really the type doesn’t matter. In reality we’d be more likely to be run over by tram (or die from worrying) than have serious complications.

So when eligible just get it done.

There's no way the Feds would agree to run it. If they did provide some funding towards the cost it would be conditional on the state running it. Seeing a decision is expected to be made in September, they'd probably only decide to fund it if it appears by then that vaccines aren't going to be effective at stopping serious illness from mutant strains and that quarantine will be needed for much longer than hoped.

The Age is reporting that it could be expanded to a 3000 bed facility (for a significant extra expense).

If Fed are going to fully fund and run a quarantine site doubtful it will be a place picked by the states, but rather something on Federal land and a proper tender would need to be run.

A lot of people dont seem to realise that even Howard Springs is being fully handed over to the NT Govt to staff and run from start of May.

Correlation is not causation. Hopefully just a coincidence.
Sadly this is beyond many to comprehend

My gut tells me the younger man with no prior issues will likely be linked to AZ.

If he has an auto immune condition that can take weeks to test for. And with death, likely impossible. Many men in their fifties show the first onset of systemic auto immune conditions - our new neighbour being the example, where his platelets were dangerously low when he was 59. He had a major stroke but survived. First time he knew he had Lupus. Could be exactly the same here.

We will see, it didnt take them long to conclude that the first woman who died here post AZ was in fact a direct correlation.

A big issue with some hereditary conditions can be that some people's grandparents died young, so their parents went on preventative treatment at a young age, but because their parents are still alive and healthy, the younger generation hasn't gone on preventative treatment. Going on preventative treatment doesn't stop you from passing on a hereditary health problem. I've spoken to a doctor who says some of his patient's adult children are dying before them because they haven't had preventative treatment. They seem healthy and then unexpectedly they're gone.

I wonder if any of those suffering serious side effects from the AZ vaccine could be some of those.

Very true. My Friend lost her mum in her forties from an unusual type of cancer. Just considered bad luck at the time (decades ago). It was only when my friends son developed colon cancer in his thirties that my friend was tested and found to have inherited Lynch Syndrome (non polyp cancer) and she had passed it to her son.

My grandmother had RA. My mother had Hashimotos and then later tiny brain clots that eventually took her life. No further testing as to why. When I developed a Blood clot at a much younger age it was only then that dots were being put together. Now my niece has likewise been diagnosed and medical people monitoring her children.

If someone is reacting in such a manner to the vaccination then an auto immune issue may be considered.

Good vaccination rate yesterday - nearly 83,000 which is the best for some time. I won’t do my vaccination stakes up date tonight, as we haven’t really made any progress - it was a very flat week, but I am hoping for a bit of a push next week.
