Have just been looking through the “temporary inflight services,” and noticed it now says that entertainment including the entertainment app are available on selected flights. I haven’t heard anywhere of that. Can anyone confirm that it is available now?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

A family member is on a 737 now and it's not working yet but wifi is! QF does say that it'll be progressively rolling out which I assume means from today until they get to all the aircraft to upload the new content.

Wifi has be a life saver on those longer flights to Darwin but I really appreciate the update, thank you. Am flying tomorrow on a 737 so will have a look then.

Perhaps they have negotiated a deal with the entertainment provider that more closely aligns what they are paying with the current fleet in use for flying rather than paying for the whole fleet whether it's grounded or not.

I’m assuming it was pure economics - cost to provide vs viewership numbers and ability to sell advertising to pay for it off the back of number of pax carried.

pax recovery now enough presumably to make advertising sales pickup and hence worth turning back on.

surpirsed they don’t just do wifi only and forget the rest of it but there must be enough money in the advertising to be worth it (noting all their aircraft already have the equipment aboard so it’s just production and distribution, not so much installation of hardware).

I suspect it mainly comes down to the Trans Tasman flights. Air NZ is offering full service across the tasman with lounges, normal service onboard, wifi (on some aircraft) and entertainment on their flights. Qantas is simply bring their service back to match.

WiFi was not disabled for very long. In fact it looks like it was re-enabled in July last year.

The entertainment had remained disabled though, so good to see it's coming back.

IFE should be up and running on all aircraft by the 15th. Until then, you may or may not have it depending if the aircraft has been updated with new content.

Headsets are not provided so BYO.

Flew twice on Saturday, both flights there was an announcement about no IFE but wifi working. (wifi has been on since mid last year as mentioned above, with the exception of some A330s)

We flew back from Tassie on a Qantaslink 717 last Monday. As we started descent into BNE for some reason I thought entertainment (I'd been reading) so I opened it and it was active. If it had been announced I would have done something far less cerebral than reading :)

QF841 on April 10, Q-Streaming was available on VH-VXU as was wifi, oddly the crew didn't announce either was available.

with the exception of some A330s
QF has 18 A330-200's of which 7 have wifi fitted. Only the 10 without IFE screens in Economy were due to get wifi which means just 3 to fit. The remaining 8 wifi a fixed IFE screen at every seat aren't scheduled to get it. A 38% chance of wifi on an A332.

None of the A330-300's have it fitted as they were the international fleet. A 0% chance of wifi on an A333.

QF has 75 737's of which 3 aren't fitted - VH-VYD, VH-VYH and VH-XZB (the last was the test aircraft but had its dish removed). A 97% chance of wifi on 737 flights.

Whilst we're on the subject of IFE, once it's been reenabled, domestically you'll find the following:

38 of the 75 737's (~50%) have streaming entertainment
18 of the 75 737's (~25%) have an entertainment screen
19 of the 75 737's (~25%) are fitted with the sky interior and have a screen

10 of the 18 A330-200's (~55%) have a screen in business class and ipad streaming in Economy
8 of the 18 A330-200's (~44%) have a screen in both cabins

10 of the 10 A330-300's (100%) have a screen in both cabins

13 of the 20 B717's (65%) have streaming entertainment (this is all the dual-cabin aircraft)
7 of the 20 B717's (35%) have no entertainment (this is all of the economy only aircraft)

Any of the aircraft with an entertainment screen (~50%) has a USB port in the screen. Some but not all of the remaining 50% has a retrofitted USB port under the seat.
Thanks very much henrus. So very much a coin flip on if you'll get one. Do you know if QF is concentrating the 50% with screens on particular routes? Eg, transcon versus SYD-MEL, or are they kinda all over the place?

A flip of a coin except for the Trans Tasman routes which typically got ones with screens (but this remains to be seen in a week's time if this is still the case).

Inflight was on my recent ex MEL flight as well.

As an aside, does anyone know how many A330s are back in service now?
