Qantas launches massive flight sale and extends ‘no change fee’ policy until 2022

Qantas has launched a nationwide sale of more than one million seats, with fares starting from as little as $99.

For one week from Monday 8 February, the flying kangaroo will allow passengers to purchase cheap fares across all capital city and regional routes for travel from mid-March.

The airline has also extended its “no change fee” policy until 2022, allowing travellers to make unlimited date changes to their domestic and international bookings, without having to pay.

Also J sale included.

Just booked MEL-OOL-MEL in J for $399 o/w. Not only is there the flexibility highlighted above, T&Cs when booking state the fare is fully refundable:

Wow that is a great fare! Direct or stop over in SYD?

Direct. Anything via SYD was coming up as $799 o/w for the same dates.

Interestingly, I initially went to the AMEX TA website to use a voucher to book these however the fares weren't available there even for the direct flights ... go figure!

Any other great deals in J found?
From my observation there were some J fares (free cancellation), the same/similar price as economy with $99 cancellation fee and free change - but this was before today's announcement.

The official press release is here:

I notice that it says "The updated “Fly Flexible” policy applies to all new domestic flight bookings for Qantas and QantasLink and Trans-Tasman services booked from today until at least the end of April." (emphasis mine)

So looks like Qantas are signalling that the unlimited fee free changes (plus fare difference) will be the norm even after the inevitable extensions to the "book by" deadline.

However it's now even more complex than ever with different layerings of commercial and waiver policies applying to bookings based on book by / travel by dates — rather than retrospectively applying these new rules to existing bookings to try and achieve some kind of uniformity.

There are some very interesting Mona to Jupiter J fares cropping up. Haven't booked mine yet so a bit cryptic for the lurkers.

Glad you said it was cryptic... because I didn't have a clue what you were talking about

Not to be pedantic, but strictly speaking aren't the "unlimited fee free changes" limited to date changes only? So I'm assuming you can't change your city pairs without incurring the usual change fee for the fare type purchased. Not terrible but also not the "the highest level of flexibility" as Qantas would want you to believe at first blush.

We just booked SYD <> DRW in business for $499 each way for Friday departure, Sunday return in mid May 2021. We had chosen 30 March 2021 as the start date for our SG challenge, so great timing with these sale fares for us!
